Update your Reader firmware, compliments of Sony.

Sony has created a firmware update for your Reader, allowing it to remain compatible with the new eBook Store format. This update will allow your PRS-500 to support the ePub and Adobe DRM format and add the ability to re-flow PDF documents. Due to the nature of the work required, you will need to send your PRS-500 Reader to the Sony Service Centers for updating.

All you need to do is complete the request for firmware update through the link below, or call 866-962-7669. We will provide you with a pre-paid UPS label for sending in your Reader. You should have your PRS-500 back within 14 days, with the firmware update installed.

NOTE:

Please remember to backup the Books and personal content on your Reader prior to sending it in because we cannot guarantee that all content will remain on your Reader after the update process. To backup your content, simply make sure that all your books and personal files are saved on your computer within your eBook Library, or in a separate folder.

Program overview

For SonyStyle retail purchases:

Between November 8, 2009 and March 31, 2010, trade in your Sony Reader PRS-500 when you purchase a new Sony Reader PRS-300 or PRS-600 at a Sony Style retail store and receive $50 off the purchase price at point of sale for the PRS-300 or $75 off the purchase price at point of sale for the PRS-600. See below for details.

For SonyStyle Online and Telesales purchases:

Receive $50 credit when you purchase a new Sony Reader PRS-300 or $75 credit when you purchase a new Sony Reader PRS-600 from Sony Style (online or telesales only) between November 8, 2009 and March 31, 2010 and you trade in your Sony Reader PRS-500 within 30 days of purchasing the new unit. The last day Sony will accept PRS-500 trade-in units is April 30, 2010. See below for details.

To be eligible to receive the $50 or $75 credit under this Program, all of the following requirements must be satisfied:

Purchase Requirements

Trade-In Requirements and Claim Submission Process

Please read the following carefully. Failure to complete any and all steps in the submission process will invalidate your claim and you will not be eligible for the $50 or $75 credit. This Program is a one-for-one trade only.

The following claim submission process does not apply to purchases made at Sony Style retail stores. In such case, you must trade in your PRS-500 at the time you complete a qualifying PRS-300 or PRS-600 purchase in order to receive the $50 credit for the PRS-300 or $75 credit for the PRS-600. Please be sure to remove all media and stored data from your PRS-500 and keep the AC Adaptor as it is compatible with the new PRS-300 and PRS-600.

For Sonystyle.com and Telesales purchases:

• Complete your purchase of a new PRS-300 or PRS-600 pursuant to the requirements above.
• Print out the claim form by clicking this link. Fill out the claim form completely, sign it, and tape both the form and your PRS-300 or PRS-600 Order Confirmation, to the PRS-500 being traded in to Sony for credit.
• Be sure to follow the instructions below in the section entitled "Removing Data from Your PRS-500".
• Ship the PRS-500 device only to the following address using a trackable ship method. Please keep your AC adapter and Memory Stick media as they are compatible with the new PRS-300 and PRS-600. Sony must receive your PRS-500 device no later than April 30, 2010. Units received after this date will not be eligible for the $50 or $75 credit.

• You remain responsible for risk of loss for the trade-in product until delivery of the same to Sony’s warehouse. Title of the PRS-500 passes to Sony at the point of delivery to Sony's warehouse.
• Once the Sony warehouse receives and verifies your trade-in, and confirms your qualifying purchase of a PRS-300 or PRS-600, you will receive a credit in the amount of $50 against your sonystyle.com PRS-300 order and $75 against your sonystyle.com PRS-600 order. For credit issuance, please allow 8-10 weeks following postmark of a properly submitted trade in product and completed Claim Form.
• If an ineligible product is received, you will not be eligible for the Program and no credit will be issued.
• Submitting false claims for Program benefits may make you ineligible for future participation in Sony promotional programs and may subject you to civil liability or criminal prosecution.
• Sony is not responsible for late, lost, stolen, misdirected, illegible, incomplete or postage-due claims/requests or for any printing, human, fax, computer or other errors. Nonconforming submissions will not be processed.
• Sony reserves the right to request additional information from you at its discretion to validate a claim.

Removing Data from Your PRS-500

You agree to remove Memory Stick® or SD media and all stored data from your PRS-500 before trading it in. By trading in your PRS-500, you agree to release Sony from any claim relating to the PRS-500, the data stored in such product, or any information on any media used in conjunction with the product. You further agree to release Sony from any claim relating to such data's security, integrity, confidentiality, disclosure or use. Sony will not be responsible for securing, protecting, keeping secret or otherwise managing any form of data or information that is stored on or otherwise contained in any PRS-500 that you send to Sony. You bear sole responsibility for removing or securing such data and for transferring it to a storage device under your continuing control. Please confirm you have backed up your content.

The eBook Store from Sony allows 6 devices to be registered to an account. In order to de-authorize the PRS-500 from your eBook Store account, please do the following:

• Login to your account.
• Go to Account and find the "Device Details" box.
• Click on "Manage devices" and you will see all devices authorized with your account.
• Select the Reader device you want to de-authorize and click on the "De-authorize" link next to it. It will prompt you to verify the information; click again on "De-authorize" to de-authorize the Reader from your account.

Releasing Rights to Your Traded Product and any content loaded on your PRS-500

You must own the right, title, and interest in the PRS-500 item which you are trading in as part of this Program. All product, data and documentation submitted for this Program become the property of Sony and will not be returned. We will be formatting your PRS-500 immediately and all contents will be permanently erased and irretrievable.

Miscellaneous

This Program offer is not transferable and is void where restricted or prohibited by law. Sony may cancel the Program or change these terms and conditions at any time without notice and by posting the amended terms on this site or in Sony Style retail stores. Modified terms will be effective immediately upon posting and will apply to all purchases of eligible PRS-300 or PRS-600 models made following such posting. These terms and conditions may not be otherwise amended except in extraordinary circumstances and in a writing signed by both parties. All decisions by Sony regarding the administration of this Program and the eligibility of a claim for credit are final.

THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS ARE GOVERNED BY AND CONSTRUED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CALIFORNIA LAW, AND NO CONFLICT OF LAWS OR PROVISIONS OF ANY JURISDICTION WILL APPLY TO THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS. BY SENDING YOUR PRS-500 READER DIGITAL BOOK TO SONY, YOU AGREE THAT ANY ACTION AT LAW OR INEQUITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS WILL BE FILED ONLY IN STATE OR FEDERAL COURT LOCATED IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, AND YOU HEREBY IRREVOCABLY AND UNCONDITIONALLY CONSENT AND SUBMIT TO THE EXCLUSIVE JURISDICTION OF SUCH COURTS OVER ANY SUIT, ACTION, OR PROCEEDING ARISING OUT OF THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
