So I absolutely love this camera. It has so many amazing modes and it is very compact for travel and it takes beautiful photos. My major concern is that I have only had this camera for about 5 months and the super fragile lens cover that opens and closes when you turn on and off the camera has broken and now the camera dose not work at all now. I am hoping that i have at least enough of a warranty to replace the camera or at least have it fixed.

I love the pictures I get with Dony DSC W170. I accidentally got the best camera ever! I was in Japan when I bought a more expensive competitor's camera but it was too big and made fatal errors! This camera is fast and easy to use. What was not advertised in the store was all that it can do beside pictures! It will arrange pictures into a sound/music presentation which will play as full HD 1080 on a big screen TV. You can purchase add'l lenses like wide angle and Tele conversion lens.(I just ordered) If you snorkel you can buy water Housing so you can take pictures up to 132 feet below the surface! Now what camera can do that at such a reasonable?!

I have been looking for a new camera for up to a year, and I finally got this one, and I really love this camera. I like the fact that it faster and it takes great, clear pictures, also the video camera is awesome . I carried it out everytime I go out, I love the color, and it' way cheaper for what I've paid in the past for my other sony camera, and it's better..

Intelligent Scene Recognition Mode
Intelligent Scene Recognition mode automatically detects 5 different types of scenes and selects the appropriate camera setting: Backlight, Backlight Portrait, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Twilight using a Tripod. Best Camera I've Owned
Pros: Easy to use, clear pictures, true colors, lightweight, compact.
Cons: None that I can find.
I got my camera 2 days ago and it was instant love. It's very easy to use and become accustomed to. The pictures are so clear and the colors so true. The special effects are fun to use too. I took a picture of a small Santa against a very plain background. Santa was somewhat lost (NOT the fault of the camera) so I used a radial blur which now draws the eye right to him.

Good buy
I like this camera even if I over paid for it. Buy one.
- Viewable area; measured diagonally.
- Available storage capacity may vary and a portion of the memory is used for data management functions.
- HD viewing requires a Sony HD connector cable or HD Cyber-shot Station® cradle and HDTV. All sold separately.
- Music tracks can be up to five minutes long. When using Music Transfer to download music, tracks longer than five minutes will be reduced to five minutes when uploading to the Cyber-shot.
- Smart Zoom® feature will not work at highest resolution setting.
- Up to 6 shots while in Smile Shutter mode.
- Shooting at high frame rate of up to 30 frames per second requires Memory Stick PRO Duo™ media.
- Special TV settings are required. Further details are available in the BRAVIA® instruction manual.
