From exceeding ENERGY STAR® 3.0 requirements to creating eco-friendly features, Sony continues to build smarter, energy-efficient TVs for a better tomorrow. First the picture is very good. The gadgets are intresting but I do not take full advantage of them. I have been looking at this TV and a similar Samsung. I finally decided to go with the Sony after getting a smaller Sony for the bedroom and the picture is great. The major problem with this TV is that the documentation say's that the TV will output 5.1 sound. I made the mistake of thinking that if I put a 5.1 digital signal in the TV using the HDMI cable I could output the signal thru it's digital optical output to my A/V receiver. Not so. The only way to get a 5.1 sound out is to go thru the tuner built into the TV. So if you use a cable box like I do to bring in an HD signal you can not get a 5.1 digital output for your surround sound from the TV. Which makes all the HDMI inputs to the TV mainly video only. Sure it will give you 3.1 out but why not use 5.1 if you have it. So if your A/V receiver has a limited number of digital inputs beware. This TV can only output 5.1 sound thru it's TV tuner. It will not pass on 5.1 sound thru an HDMI cable input. One last note when calling Sony tech support to find out how the TV was supposed to work I received so many wrong answers I finally did it by e-mail to document the errors.
