Measuring a mere 9.9mm in width, the BRAVIA KLV-40ZX1M is Sony's thinnest 40" LCD monitor (measured diagonally). It's almost as slim as OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays.
With Full HD 1080p resolution panel (1920x1080), this LCD monitor lets you take full advantage of HD sources such as Blu-ray Disc players and PLAYSTATION®3 systems that can deliver 1080p content.
Enjoy a more fluid, natural and realistic viewing experience while watching fast-action sports and movies. Motionflow 120Hz technology enhances sharpness and delivers smooth motion for fast-action pictures.
Experience an expansive color palette and natural color gradation via the Wide Color Gamut LED edge light. You'll get brilliant contrast with optimized, more accurate color and blacker blacks.
Every scene will be sharper, more vibrant and life-like thanks to BRAVIA Engine™ 2 fully digital video processor. Additionally, this BRAVIA Engine optimizes contrast and enhances overall image detail while significantly reducing noise.
By combining a 10-bit processor and 10-bit panel, the BRAVIA KLV-40ZX1M is able to display billions of colors. You'll also notice smoother color transitions and avoid a picture with a "paint by numbers" look.

I love this unit!!!! Wish it were a 50" though, but then it would've been very expensive. :P

Pros: Gorgeous Picture, Stunning design
Cons: cost
This TV (technically it is just a monitor as it has no tuner) is absolutely STUNNING. It is perfect for the on-wall installation we needed as it weighs only 26 lbs. (one stud mounting). The fact that it has no tuner and only one HDMI in is actually a positive for my use as all HDMI switching and audio are handled by a receiver. And If you have cable or satellite, please let me know when you ever used the tuner in your television. Picked up an open box model at a significant discount and we are really please so far.

This Monitor is beautiful & elegant. If you are reading this review is because you love the Sony designs. I have this monitor connected to VGX-XL3 Media Center VAIO. Monitor is everything I expected and more. Quality is outstanding, it weighs almost nothing, design is elegant and very attractive (it screams expensive). I have no need for speakers since I got HT-IS100 excellent combination (minimalist design). Colors are very natural (after calibration) and contrast is great, you can see the details on a black suite and the black is just as black as the frame. I do not see any brighter on the corners (like some online reviews complain). The light from the edge-led is evenly distributed. Just wished that the sony logo would give you the option of being iluminated. Since this monitor does not has the "glass floating design" it reduces weight to the minimum (I love that). It is even lighter than the competition of edge-lit LED tv's. The only complain I have is that Sony design the TV to automatically detect a PC input or Video input. You might ask, what's the difference? PC input comes with computer timings, it turns off the video calibration options such as color hue, sharpness, and any filter such as Noise reduction and any Advance settings (see manual pg 11). Therefore video must be calibrated thru your video card settings. You wont have access to 120Hz, Inverse Telecine, Contrast filters, etc... meaning you wont get the very best picture quality this way. I still haven't being able to trick the TV into thinking is a 1080p video source. The following settings are recognized as video input. 1280X720 @60Hz (considered 720p) 1920X1080@24Hz (24fps, true film video) 1920X1080@30Hz (considered 1080i) 1920X1080@60Hz (considered PC Input) all other Sony TVs consider this 1080P but not this monitor. Sony should have let the user decide whether to use PC or Video input but not even in the service menu allows you to override this setting. However, when you start a video inside media center in fullscreen the Monitor switches to video input 1080P. The bad is that it changes your video settings and it flickers while it changes. NOT SO GOOD Sony. This is the reason I gave it a lower than 5 star raiting. Something to consider if you plan to use it with Media Center such as VGX-XL1, XL2, XL3, TP1, TP20, TP25 or any other Media Center computer if you want 1080p.
The big picture never looked slimmer thanks to the KLV-40ZX1M BRAVIA® LCD monitor. Boasting a revolutionary design, this super-slim display measures 9.9mm thin and weighs about 26 pounds. Packed with features, this LCD monitor comes with advanced color reproduction technologies such as 10-bit processing and a 10-bit panel for smoother color transitions, plus a BRAVIA® Engine™ 2 fully digital video processor. In addition to a wide color gamut LED that delivers exceptional color reproduction and detailed contrast, the KLV-40ZX1M has Motionflow™ 120Hz technology for exceptional clarity and resolution when viewing fast action sports, movies and games.
At 9.9 mm thin, the Sony® BRAVIA® KLV-40ZX1M LCD Flat Panel Monitor is Sony's thinnest 40" LCD monitor (measured diagonally), nearly as thin as OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays.
BRAVIA Engine™ 2 fully digital video processor uses a collection of unique Sony® algorithms to significantly reduce noise, enhance overall image detail, and optimize contrast so every scene produces sharp, vibrant, life-like images.
BRAVIA® KLV-40ZX1M LCD monitor offers one HDMI™ input (up to 1080/60p capable) that transmits uncompressed digital video and multi-channel audio over one cable.
Live Color Creation™ technology works in combination with a special WCG-CCFL backlight to refine colors and deliver a more realistic picture.
Bring your photos to life and enjoy highly detailed, Full HD 1920x1080p images with the PhotoTV HD mode. PhotoTV HD fine-tunes settings on your BRAVIA® KLV-40ZX1M LCD monitor, such as sharpness, gradation, and color to display images that more closely match the look of printed photographs.
With four full-range speakers and two tweeters, the KLV-40ZX1M optional matching speaker bar (sold separately) ensures that the Sony® BRAVIA® KLV-40ZX1M LCD Flat Panel Monitor not only looks great, but sounds great, too. Designed to complement the stunning design of the KLV-40ZX1M, the matching speaker bar provides an integrated on-the-wall audio solution.
The Wide Color Gamut LED edge light provides an expansive color palette and more natural color gradation than an edge light using conventional fluorescent bulbs. With a Wide Color Gamut LED edge light, you get brilliant contrast with optimized, more accurate color and blacker blacks, as well as a longer-lasting bulb lifespan than fluorescents.
The BRAVIA® KLV-40ZX1M combines a 10-bit processor and 10-bit panel to create and display billions of colors. Using both a 10-bit processor and 10-bit panel allows for 64 times the level of color expression in 8-bit panels, resulting in smoother color transitions and helping to avoid giving the picture a “paint-by-numbers” look.
Advanced Contrast Enhancer circuit (ACE) uses real-time image processing to dynamically improve contrast, resulting in deep blacks in darker scenes, as well as fine details in shadows and other dark areas of the picture for a difference you can truly see.
24p True Cinema™ mode provides a direct connection to 24p video sources, avoiding conversions and allowing users to enjoy films at their intended 24 fps (frames per second) cinematic picture quality when using a 24p-capable output device, such as a Blu-ray Disc™ player or PlayStation®3 entertainment system.
At a depth of only 20 mm, the SU-WL700 wall-hugging mount (sold separately) tightly secures your monitor to the wall, maintaining the thin profiles of the newest Sony® LCD Flat Panel monitors. It also provides five tilt angle options from 0 to 20 degrees, allowing you to adjust your monitor for the perfect view.
16:9 Full HD 1080p resolution panel (1920x1080) accepts any HD signal and renders it with optimum resolution, so you can take full advantage of Blu-ray Disc™ players and PlayStation®3 entertainment systems that can deliver 1080p content.
Motionflow™ 120Hz technology doubles the number of frames in incoming video content by creating and inserting sixty entirely new frames between the existing sixty frames in real time. In addition to creating new frames, Motionflow™ 120Hz technology also includes an Image Blur Reduction algorithm, which reduces source image blur captured by the camera, as well as a de-juddering circuit to help reduce jerking and stuttering during sweeping pans. The end result is smoother, more fluid motion that delivers a natural and realistic viewing experience.
You don't have to sacrifice the slim, clean design of the Sony® BRAVIA KLV-40ZX1M LCD Flat Panel Monitor to connect your A/V and other HDMI components. With the BRAVIA Wireless Link module (sold separately) you can wirelessly transmit real-time, HD signals to a receiver (not included) hidden behind the LCD monitor.
x.v.Color™ technology takes color expression to new levels. When connected to x.v.Color capable video sources, such as select Sony® camcorders, the BRAVIA® KLV-40ZX1M monitor can display nearly twice as many (1.8x) viewable colors as the existing RGB color standard, resulting in more natural, life-like images.
Dynamic Video Noise Reduction adaptive technology analyzes the motion, sharpness, and brightness of each scene in real time to identify various types of noise and reduce unwanted artifacts without compromising the video signal.
VESA® compatible hole spacing uses an industry-standard mounting hole pattern that can be used with VESA-compliant mounting brackets, taking the guesswork out of selecting the proper hardware for hanging your HDTV on the wall.

Pros: Well-built, built to last japanese made
Cons: eye-opener for thieves! beware! very light! 2 cords easy to detach.
I would definitely buy another one for my bedroom. This monitor is understatement to those who don't get the concept of single input design ( HDMI ). It's actually the best idea of mantaining clean lines, Solution to tangled cables behind any monitor available today. It's wireless tv capable. I have read too many bad reviews regarding this monitor. They all wrong!!!!!! when it comes to performance. Colors are Sony RICH, VIVID along with the digital surround sound coming from the base/stand of the unit. I took me a while to re-configured connecting this 1 HDMI input design towards my current and mostly outdated electronics gadgets. None of my dvd players has hdmi out, including my HD receiver. Thanks, to UNIVERSAL SELECTOR PRO. I had the component output upscaled to a >component to HDMI adapter< including the sound, and everything are now working perfect. Performance unchanged to whether a direct HDMI or converted component to hdmi.
