I owned a few other Sony pm3 players and they were all great, but the X series Walkman rocks!!!!!! the sound quality is awesome, soft bass, the display is crystal clear and vibrant. Sooooo much better than I Pod. Well worth the price!!!!!

I have a SONY NWZ-S738 Walkman and wanted to upgrade to this really brilliant looking new piece of ART by Sony, expecting at least the same audio output quality as my old good S738. But it did not happen, sound is not as clear anymore... Don't get me wrong - it is not as bad, as iPod or other popular MP3 players. It is very good, but I was expecting brilliant sound from the TOP model. Everything else is brilliant, especially the SCREEN. I hate to say that I had to return this unit and for now sticked with my S738. I hope the next model will be at least on par with the predecessor. Sony, if you gave something, don't take it back... Give more! But without sacrificing the most important feature - the sound quality!

A little expensive, but comes with a 100 free music downloads!! Compatible with all my existing music and really easy to use. I don't have to resync my entire library and i decide what to keep and delete on the device. I had a creative Zen and this Walkman X series has much better sound, though it could be the noise canceling ear buds sony gives you with the walkman. All in All, I am very pleased with my purchase.

It's been 2-3 months and I'm still in love

This is the best PMP player I have ever owned. Before I bought this product, I was looking for a PMP that had a touch screen with a responsive user interface, and a player that had great sound quality. After owning the Sony X-Series Walkman for 2-3 months, I am still in love with it. With the Sony X-Series and its AMAZING SOUND QUALITY, I truly believe that I am hearing music for the first time. I am so in love, that I bought the official Sony leather case from Japan, and invested in some audiophile headphones to really bring out an immaculate sound. That is what this product has done to me. It has made me love music again. Thank you Sony for such a great product!!!

The Jury Is Still Out
Pros: Good Transfer of Music From iTunes
Cons: Frustrating Web Browser
I purchased this player after reading the reviews, and being an avid Sony fan. But I must say so far, I'm disappointed. I also have a 2nd gen iPod Touch, and In my opinion, it is a much better product. The Sony has a smaller screen, but the videos tend to look a bit better than the iPod thanks to OLED technology. Sound is better, and I like the Noise Canceling, DSP, and Digital Sound Amplifier. Transferring music from iTunes is simple enough, but movies have to go through Windows Media Player which takes forever (even with broadband). Viewing movies takes some getting used to. They are all letter-boxed, and if there are subtitles you may need a magnifying glass to read it (if anyone knows how to make it display in full screen, or to transfer movies from iTunes, please let me know!) The SonyMusicPass website is good if all you happen to like is popular music. iTunes has movies/TV (purchase or rent), books, podcasts, games, apps, and of course millions of music titles. And with iTunes 9, many more new features have been added. The Sony web browser can't hold a candle to Safari. I also think that for $300 they could have included a carrying case and charger, instead of the impressive packaging. Maybe with a firmware upgrade the X Series Player will be more user-friendly, and have more features (like Bluetooth with an iPod firmware update) to directly compete with the iPod, or the newly released MicroSoft Zune HD.

This walkman sounds incredibly even with the included earbud. But I still recommend to upgrade the earbud. Sony EX700 EX500 and Sennheiser IE8 IE6 would be good choices. Those don't come cheap,but the sound quality you can expect definitely worth the money. The power of this machine can be fully unleashed using high end earphones. The web browser is a painful and tedious experience. It's slow and hard to input. The playmode isn't very intelligent. When you select a song from the "cover flow like" way, the playmode will be changed into normal way and you have to manually select shuffle again.

Watch out Apple Ipod here comes the Walkman X .

I bought the Walkman X from Sony, and I have to say it the best MP3 digital music player I've ever owned. Truly the best digital diplay on any small electronic device. The sound settings of the Walkman has many hybrid settings and features, the video and photos look amazing, too. The Walkman X takes you into an amazing world of sound and vision. Lightweight, solid design, great battery life, on and on. I say buy one today.
- Music: AVC (H.264/AVC), MPEG-4, and WMV and Video: MP3, WMA, AAC-LC, and L-PCM. Not all MP3/WMA/AAC/L-PCM/AVC (H.264/AVC)/MPEG-4/WMV DRM files may play back due to file variations. Playback depends on recording conditions.
- Actual battery life will vary based on network, product settings, usage patterns, battery, and environmental conditions.
- 16 GB = 17,179,869,184 bytes. A portion of the memory is used for data management functions.
- Reduces 17 dB of environmental noise by up to 98%. At 200Hz
- Some web pages may not be displayed properly. Furthermore, browser on X1000 series does not support viewing of Flash® contents on web site or uploading / downloading of files. Internet connectivity uses a wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) connection.
