I have the DG910 and am having difficulty getting clean sound using my iPod as a source. Used the same setup on my previous stereo with no problem. This is using either a Dock with RCA cables or a simple headphone cable with RCA ends. Sony support indicates that I need to buy the DM Port adapter in order to get a digital input and that should solve the problem of volume issues. I have to turn the stereo volume up to MAX in order to get basic sound. Funny, but using my laptop as a source gives solid clean sound. And it's an analog signal. Looks like I need to invest another Franklin to try out the Sony DM Port.

Pros: has everything you need at a great price compared to competitors, on screen GUI was nice
Cons: The look is a bit cheap compared to other units, I wish the display had some more colors, and the edges had more curves
Lots of choices for hookups and the available HDMI switching made this a no brainer for me. I was able to get the cables hooked up in about 30 minutes including the speaker cables which can be a bit more difficult then other connections, set up took some time, but shows a display on your TV that walks you through it which was awesome and actually identified and helped me fix a couple connections I had wrong. Oh and one last thing, using only 3 HDMI's to hook up my audio and video for my LCD, and blu ray was really nice!

Pros: Affordable, Powerfull, One cable to run to TV!!
Cons: Can't assign HDMI through GUI menu
My goal in purchasing a new reciever was to get rid of several cables running from the media cabinet to the wall mounted LCD and run only one HDMI from the reciever to the tv. My cable provider is HDMI but the older X-box 360 I have has component video cables. I origianly purchased the STR-DG820 but had to return it after learning that model does not upscale video sources and purchased the STR-DG920 and SS-F7000 (floorstanding speakers). It didn't take long for me to figure out how to match the analog audio from the 360 to the component video from the 360 through the GUI menu and my girlfriend noticed the improvement in video quality. I had a little trouble getting video from the HDMI source. I plugged my cable box in to the "SAT" HDMI input on the reciever but could not get it to show up on the tv. After several hours of messing with the setting on the GUI menu I discovered I had to push the "INPUT" button on the front that switches from ANALOG to AUTO. Once in AUTO, it takes several seconds to recognize the source and display it. I think the reciever may have a loose HDMI input also because if I move the reciever slightly it will loose the signal and I have to wiggle the cable to get it to come back. Hopefull sony will be able to do a firmware update and allow you to select the HDMI source through the GUI menu. This reciever has enough functions to keep you busy for a week tweeking every thing or you can use the included mic to auto calibrate everything. Now I have to buy a Blue Ray player, 5 speakers and a sub.

This receiver does everything most anyone will need over the next several years. I studied receiver specs for months. Compared capabilities, checked cost fluctuations, visited "ultra high end" home theater dealers, spoke to many so called AV experts, some were called sales associates, combined systems together in sound rooms, paired receivers with speakers,TV's with speakers and receivers. Be prepared to learn the capabilities of this receiver. Learning comes from both trial and error and trying to understand the "vague" instructions. This system took me hours to "mess" with and learn. If you have the time and you enjoy a challenge, this receiver's for you. It has all the normal Sony setups with A, B and C (Cinema Sound Enhanced) CSTEX, AUTO FORMAT DETECT "AFD" and all of Dolby's current and future formats, Neural THX, True HD "lossless". 4 HDMI's inputs for more hookups than most of us need, optical toslinks etc, XM Radio, DM Ports etc., etc. and a whole host of other inputs and outputs that better confirm the best value. The power and performance of the STRDG-920 is impeccable - after you have done all that's required to make this receiver perform at it's best. - Here's what I did - I invited a neighbor over to test the systems capabilities and try to tell the difference between Pirates of the Caribbean in Blue Ray, and Pirates of the Caribbean in regular DVD. I let him watch the 1st ten minutes of each. Low and behold my neighbor actually thought the latter was the Blue Ray. Both Blue Ray Disc Player and the STRDG-920 systems perform an up-conversion to 1080P. I am totally satisfied with the performance and value of this system!
