Exceeded my expectations
Pros: easy set up, good looks, excellent picture/sound with BD player, great GUI, lots of features, and PRE-OUTS!!!
Cons: no remote trigger, no switched outlet in the rear, no toslink for the CD player only digital coaxil.
I've been an avid Sony ES fan since the late 80's early 90's This unit replaced Sony's once flag ship the STRGX909ES from 1994. I'm using the 2400es as a pre/pro like I did with the 909es. I have 2 TA-N55es amplifiers and one massive TA-N77ES amplifier. I purchased this receiver to decode the latest formats and it does a great job with both audio and video. I purchased this unit from a local company that was blowing out it's inventory so I got it for 1/2 of MSRP and since I had 15 day trial it was a no brainer. After a short time I knew I was keeping it. The only major con I have is, this unit doesn't power on/off my monster power center. My cable box does have a switched outlet so I'm able to use that and at least I don't have to turn on everything one by one. A switched outlet is a must Sony! The other con is no toslink connection for the CD player, I can use the Sat toslink but then the remote doesn't control the CD player so I have to use the dgital coaxil port. The last little nitpicky thing I can come up with is the feet on the unit are plain black and not polished aluminum like the rest of my ES equipment. My vintage rosewood panel ES equipment that is nearly 20 years old has a nicer fit/finish, Sony could have spent a few dollars more here in my opinion.

Great Product
Pros: Features, quality, and ease of use
Cons: None so far, other than me tweaking it constantly - because I can
I upgraded from a Sony STR-DG710 to the 2400ES and everything is night and day in difference. The setup is so much more intuitive via the onscreen GUI. Also have the ability to decode the HD formats as they were meant to be heard. The sound quality is a major improvement over the 710. The video upscaling seems to be very good as well, and all is pretty flawless. From my experience Sony has really hit a home run with this receiver, and I would highly recomend it to anyone who is on the fence.

GREAT
Pros: 4 HDMI'S AND UPSCALER
Cons: NOT ENOUGH DIG INPUTS IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN 4 DIG COMP.
VERY EASY HOOK UP AND CALIBRATION. IF U NEED PLENTY OF HDMI'S W/ AN UPSCALER THIS IS YOUR MACHINE. VERY SIMPLE AND HAS EXCELLENT QUALITY DSP. THE SOUND QUALITY ON EVERYTHING IS AMAZING. GET THIS ES RECEIVER.

Great Sound, Great Performance
Pros: Crisp Sound, Wide range of audo decoders
Cons: Little complex to find all features
This receiver so much exceeded my expectations, I had a Sony surround receiver that was about 8 years old and it did not support DTS decoding and I picked this unit as it had the most audio decoders for the price. The auto-calibration worked like a charm on the first pass and I was ready to go. I slapped in a Blu-Ray disc that had dts HD Master decoding and the sound blew my socks off, the highs, lows, and everything inbetween were very crisp and clean. I found I had to fish around a little to find all of the setting and while I like that you and tweak the EQ for each speaker, it would have been nice to have a setting that allowed bass and trebble to be set for all speakers or at least pairs. The flexibility of the unit to to allow you to assign each video input was great. The only very slight ding I would give it is that the flexibility makes reading the manual pretty much a must unless you have a pretty vanilla set-up, like use all HDMI inputs, otherwise you really need to lean on the manual to get the most out of it. I have the following connected, 6 speakers, sub-woofer, Blu-Ray DVD(HDMI), DVD/HardDisk recorder (component/Fiber)), a DVD Changer (component/Fiber), HDTV Cable Box (HDMI), TV(HDMI out/Fiber in) and a Audio/Video receiver from DVD recorder in another room. Everything but the Blu-Ray and HDTV are 480i that I use the upconversion on, and it really works far better than I expected. In the end I could not be happier, I was a little worried that I was not getting the top of the line receiver from the Sony line up, but after firing it up I was worried for no reason, Sony did not short change the quality one bit. If you are on a budget but want a high end surround sound receiver I can highly recommend this system.
