Take HD even further. The 1080p STR-DH500 5.1-channel A/V receiver delivers one robust HD experience, with HDMI™ pass-through and 1080/24p capability, it's compatible with the latest HD sources like Blu-ray Disc™ players, PLAYSTATION®3 and more. But the connectivity doesn't stop there. You also have access to five HD inputs for even greater versatility. Finally, the STR-DH500 includes the Digital Media Port, which allows you to extend your music selection from an iPod®, Walkman® digital music player, Bluetooth® device or from a PC (accessories sold separately).

Get versatile HD connection options with five HD inputs. Three HDMI™ inputs (up to 1080/60p capable) let you connect a Sony® PlayStation® 3 entertainment system, Blu-ray Disc™ player, or any other HDMI-capable equipment and get uncompressed digital video (secondary cable needed for audio). Two YPbPr Component inputs (1080/60i capable) provide added HD-capable connectivity and versatility1.
24p True Cinema™
24p True Cinema support provides a direct connection to 24p video sources, avoiding conversions and allowing users to enjoy films at their intended 24 fps (frames per second) cinematic picture quality when using a 24p-capable output device, such as a Blu-ray Disc™ player or Sony® PlayStation® 3 entertainment system.2
Multi Function Audio Port (DIGITAL MEDIA PORT)
The Digital Media Port allows the use of an optional Digital Media Port cradle (sold separately) to connect compatible digital audio devices directly to your Sony® A/V receiver.

Great Value
Pros: Nice sound quality for the money
Cons: HDMI not used for audio
Sony's new entry level A/V receiver is a clear step up from the old model. Sound quality is very good. The HDMI switching and Bravia-sync are a bounus espcially since the rest of the components I have are compatible. The menu is not intuitative but can be navigated reasonably well with a little practice. While Sony clearly indicates the HDMI connections are not for audio, it is still annoying to shell out for digital optical cables. I assume the reliability is consistent with other Sony products.
- Requires Digital Media Port accessory compatible with the device (sold separately).
- Sirius requires optional antenna and subscription service.
- iPod® support is limited based upon which optional Digital Media Port is being used. The TDM-IP10 will support the following players: iPod® touch, iPod® classic, iPod® Nano 1st, 2nd & 3rd generation, iPod® 4th& 5th generation &iPod® Mini. The TDM-IP 50 adds iPhone™ support as well.
