Pros: Lightweight (the lightest out there), sturday construct, thinnest profile
Cons: Shrunk keyboard (a necessary tradeoff)
I wasn't planning on buying a new notebook at all when I walked into a SONY Style store. I was blown away by the lightness of this notebook on display. After grilling the salesguy about the features and configurations, I decided to take one home. My wife said she wanted exactly a computer like this upon seeing it and holding it in her hands. Now this notebook is going to travel with her exclusively for her movie watching during flights. I've had four VAIO notebooks over the years. I have to say SONY disapppointed me time and again for the imperfect competition against Apple. When Apple introduced its MacAir, I immediately bought one with the largest SSD available at the time. However, one big problem with MacAir is its heat ventilation. After maybe 30 minutes of use, MacAir will burn your lap like you can not imagine. The new SONY seems to be a lot better with its design of heat dissipation. While it duly warns you that heat could cause harm, I found the level of heat generated is much lower than any other notebook I've used or seen. Then, there is the weight factor. I searched high and low for a comparable product. Nobody makes it lighter than 1.6 lbs. Its lightness can only be understood after you have held it in your hand. Having bought one of the first SONY eReader, I am still very ticked off by the poor software design and lousy application interface for one to download a book. While I am still on the fence on whether to embrace the new SONY eReader with builtin 3G, I can say with confidence this new notebook has partially restored my faith in SONY. Seriously, this kind of proprietary R&D-heavy products can only be introduced by SONY. Now we have to see what Apple's next new product will be like. This notebook I didn't need (or plan) to buy is making me very excited about the potential for SONY to innovate again, like the good old days. Having sold my last share of SONY years ago, I am now putting SNE (6758 JP) on my watch list again. Maybe this company is still worth investing in. P.S. After having had a PlayStation 3 for over two years, I am still disappointed at how difficult it is to make it a center part of my networked home entertainment. It's as if the engineers haven't heard of AppleTV, Roku, Tivo. SONY still has a long way to go to regain its old glory.

Pros: defines ultraportable, battery life, sleek, ultra lightweight
Cons: cord is bulky compared to system,
This system is perfect for those who desire a small discreet ultra portable laptop. Keyboard: small, but can type at 80 to 90% of full speed, touchpad: small (works great), computer: small! That's why you spent $1500. Know what you're buying! This laptop is a head turner. Windows 7 runs well. System seems adequately powered. Have only had mild bogginess running multiple applications, video, multi-downloads, bluetooth, and more simultaneously. Comes with two batteries, standard, with short useful life, large capacity with long 14 hour useful life (hello international business travelers, your computer has arrived). I actually prefer the system with the large capacity battery attached, though the system then feels about twice as heavy, it gives it substance (yeah, we're still talking under 3 pounds kids with the large capacity battery). I bundled up a Sony external DVD burner and 500 gb tiny portable external harddrive. This is a great buy if you're in the ultra portable market.

Pros: Super light, nice size, great performance for netbook
Cons: price
Do not listen to the person that talks about how the keys do not work, trackpad buttons being small, and the power cord being ugly. A) all computers take time getting used to them when switching to a keyboard of a different size that normal. B) WHO looks at the power cord? This is a computer that isnt for everyone and the price shows that. I know a good amount about netbooks and this is much lighter than the others and offers better performance features. Yes, it is priced high. If you dont like small keyboard or have fat fingers then, in general, netbooks are NOT for you. I love this thing for traveling and i take notes every night in my MBA classes and have yet to have a problem. This is fantastic if you are a person that travels a lot and/or just want a small computer that is light. Also, the SSD helps a lot with load times.

Pros: super light, quick turn on and off, has windows 7
Cons: it has quite the price tag, standard battery
This computer is great for taking to night classes and traveling with. It has a very high price tag but it is a great computer and , so far, has great performance. The standard battery (it comes with two) has fair battery life of about 3.5hrs for typing and such. i have NOT yet tried the extended battery.

Pros: very light and pretty
Cons: cord ugly and heavy, keys don't work on keypad, trackpad and enter buttons needlessly tiny, broadband does not work!
I am quite disappointed. Bought this expensive signature 1.6 lb laptop...it is tiny...but does NOT work well. Broadband will NOT connect; the volume keys - louder, softer and mute - do NOT work; customer support is dreadful and from overseas - a huge time waste; the touchpad and right and left buttons are impossibly small, tho they are surrounded by room; the power cord, which one must carry becausee battery is so small, is UGLY AND HEAVY AND UNGAINLY. WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT? Good idea, but NOT READY FOR PRIMETIME. SORRY I BOUGHT IT

Pros: Light weight, bright screen, camera, bluetooth & wi-fi
Cons: "Chicklet" keyboard could be better; bulky power supply, high price
I bought the X1 because I like the light weight and small size for traveling. I use it mostly for checking email rather than WP or financial computing. For those types of uses I think I'd need a bigger keyboard. The 64GB SSD really only has about 35GB available with the rest devoted to WIN 7 and other preloaded s/w. That's enough for me but the 128GB model might be a wiser choice for those who need the space. At $1300 the price is a bit steep - comparable performance can be obtained from a much less expensive unit albeit a thicker and heavier one. All that being said, I like the X1 very much and it suits my needs quite well. I prefer to buy Sony laptops as I've always had good luck with them and great support when needed. The one thing I'd like to see is a lighter charger.power supply that plugs directly into the wall.
