No matter where you go, enjoy peace and quiet with the MDR-NC22 noise canceling headphones. These compact and comfortable bud-style headphones can reduce noise by 87.4% (9dB at 300Hz), and the 13.5mm driver units produce powerful sound. Perfect for tuning out noise at work, traveling, or even when you are trying to sleep in a loud environment. The noise canceling circuit actually senses outside noise with built-in microphones and sends an equal-but-opposite canceling signal to the headphones. Additional features include an in-flight adapter, compact battery box and it even comes with a carrying pouch.
Noise canceling headphones reduce ambient noise and provide a quieter environment to enhance audio entertainment. The headphones have an inside microphone on each earpiece that work with an electronic circuitry to create an opposite sound wave to reduce wave. Ambient sound is reduced by synthesizing with a sound in opposite phase produced by the noise canceling circuit.
Loud, noisy environments – planes, trains, buses, work or dorms.
A supplied plug adapter connects directly to stereo or dual jack of in-flight music services.3
The drivers sit just outside the ear with the tip of the earbud small enough to fit into the ear canal for additional comfort, secure fit and sound blockage.
The headphones can operate as passive headphones when the noise canceling circuit is not activated. It allows the headphone to function as regular stereo headphones without using the battery.
Small battery box for “AAA” battery
Reduces noise up to 87.4% (9db at 300Hz) when noise canceling circuit is switched on1.
The built-in monitor function allows you to hear surrounding sound without taking off the headphones. Perfect for listening to announcements, flight attendants, or any external sound without the need to take the headphones off.
These ultra compact headphones fit comfortably inside the ear, eliminating a headband. The closed type headphone structure delivers deep bass sound.

I've had this product for 6-12 months
Pros: Bought a set re-furbished and sound on the Airplane has never been better
This is a groovy little gadget that really does what it promises. The sound quality of the music is great - to me - and the noise reduction is real. What is the most pleasant side effect is that since there is active noise reduction circuitry - you can turn the volume of the music source down. And thereby the room for subtlety in the source volume has a bit more depth. I thought I'd lost an earbud and ordered a set online just so I wouldn't have to get a set in an emergency.

Pros: Size. Did cut out a good amount of noise.
Cons: Bud replacements. Sound for music was not so good, better for movies.
I lost one of the ear covers and tried to get them replaced the day before an out-of-town flight. I went to my local Sony store, but they did not have the covers. Went to a store on my trip, along with airport shops. Nobody could provide the earbud covers and you need them in order to make them work and fit in your ear. I was very disappointed that Sony does not support its product in Sony stores. For $100 ear buds, I expected more than that. It did not say much for Sony.

Pros: performance and cost
Cons: poor case
The headphones are great - good sound and durability- battery life is also good. Perfect for travel - only disappointment is the case - a flimsy pouch rather than one of the more substantial cases that come with other sony earbuds

Pros: light weight, portable, and good value
Cons: need better storage system
I bought these out of a kiosk at the DFW airport, and was very pleasantly surprised. To me they work better than the over the ears I had purchased earlier, and cancelled more noise than the Bose over the ears I had tried. They are comfortable and are very portable - another plus over the over the ear models. I use them on the plane, the workout room and skiing. The little bag they came in broke so I use something more substantial. The cord does tend to get tangled but this is due to me just tossing them in my computer bag and not putting them in a pouch. Great value compared to other options and have been very dependable I have used them now for over six months and only have had to change batter 3 times.. I left them on twice

Pros: Very portable, and does a great job at noise canceling
Cons: wire material surround may rip - has happen in past on other headphones.
On the plane they work very well at canceling most of the noise, you can tell there is a huge difference. Their seems to be a soft hissing sound when you turn the headphones on but not listening to anything, you cannot hear the hissing while listen to music or watching a video. With noise canceling on the earphones reduces the outside noise and amplifies the sound. They work very well in the economy cabin where a lot of people also talk, you cannot hear them at all with noise canceling on. The bass is very noticeable. Also the button to stop the sound works nicely when people are talking to you so you do not have to remove the earphones. When not on the plane the hissing sound is gone or not noticeable. The wires seemed to be long, but found it to be a nice length when on the plane. Can be a bit long for everyday use. The earbuds are comfortable to use for long hours. It comes with a little bag to put the earphones in, in the bag its separated into 2 sections. This is great because one side is for the earphones and side can be used for a spare battery or the airplane adapter. When pulling out the earphones you dont have to worry about the extra pieces coming out. My bead on the string that closes the bag broke, so the bag wont close. The material that surrounds the wire feels soft and can rip if you are being rough with them. This has happen to other earphones. The wire itself will not break easily. If you are worried about this then consider the white ones since the material is different and would not rip easily.
