An ultra-bright standard lens for fast, accurate shooting by available light. For quick candid shots that capture the special moment, the SAL-50F14 lens provides superb clarity and visual accuracy, even when shooting at fully open aperture indoors, in low-light or twilight conditions. Mounted on your α DSLR-A100 camera, this lens provides midrange telephoto 75mm focal length (35mm equivalent)-and takes advantage of the in-camera Super SteadyShot® image stabilization system to minimize blur from camera movement.
In conjunction with the Super SteadyShot® image stabilization system of the Sony ± (alpha) DSLR-A100 camera, this lens achieve pinpoint sharpness even working with hand-held camera by available light.
Conventional lenses close their apertures with blades that can create multi-sided shapes -- but the aperture blades of this superb wide-angle lens form a near circle at the wide openings you’ll use for low-light shots, so spot-light sources have a pleasing circular defocused effect.
The ability to capture more light in dark environments gives you a superb lens for hand-held shooting without flash, to preserve the mood or in locations where flash is not permitted.

Pros: Light weight, fast, quality build, and sharp.
Cons: None found.
In the traditional sense, this would be classed as a normal lens. Sony has worked up a razor sharp f1.4 gereral photography lens with more uses than I can list. Being a prime lens fan, it is simply a must have for me.

Pros: Crisp, sharp photos
Cons: None
I have had my Sony A100 SLR for just over a year now and, until recently, had only used the 18-200 lens that came with it. It's a terrific lens and I have taken some wonderful landscape photos - and made some nice photo books, too. But I felt I was ready to "expand my horizons" and purchase a new lens. After much deliberation, I decided on the Sony 50mm / F1.4 lens - and I am absolutely delighted with it. The wide open aperture settings have allowed me to get some outstanding, tack-sharp shots - even when I've hand-held the camera. It will probably be a year before I can take the next step and buy another new lens for even more versatility - but I am really loving THIS one (in conjunction with the 18-200mm) in the meantime! And yes, as far as the camera itself goes, I really wish I had waited a little longer and saved a lot more - how I would LOVE to have the A900! The Nikon and Canon cameras are indeed awesome, but the Sony is a marvelous camera too and doesn't get the kudos it deserves!!!

Pros: light weight, great in low light
I bought this lens specifically for portrait shoots and to have the ability to take pictures in low light without that much of a light source. This lens performs wonderfully in most all situations. 50mm is not to close and not to far away to allow you to get the shot you want indoors and outdoors. This lens even works with my Kenko 2x Telconverter essentially making it a 100mm f/3.5 lens :D
