I've had this product for 1-2 years
This is a terrific unit. I purchased a second unit recently and had to settle for a refurbished by Sony model as there were no others in stock available for purchase. Easy to use, especially if you have cable, this device is perfect for those who don't want to toss all the VCR collections or make digital copies of VCR tapes. It has a particularly good digital tuner built in and upgrades most DVD's to 1080i. A good product for the money if you can find one for sale.

Pros: can't think of any
Cons: have to rescan each time you move the antenna and YOU WILL LOSE PREVIOUSLY SCANNED CHANNELS EACH TIME
Decent system but has some problems for people who have to use antenna's. You have to turn your antenna to get your stations on tv but with this unit you can not just add the channels if they are digitial. You have to rescan for digitial and in the process you lose the ones that you already have on the unit from the previous scan. We are very disappointed in this system for that reason. We currently have a SONY BR6 and our less expensive sony tv you are able to ADD channels as you move the antenna unlike this DVD/VCR combo. DO NOT SPEND SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY TO BUY THIS PRODUCT. BUY THE LESS EXPENSIVE ONE AND HAVE A CONVERTER BOX YOU WILL COME OUT CHEAPER THAN WE DID!!!!

I've had this product for less than a month
Pros: DVR-DL Recording, HDMI output, DVD upscaling
Cons: When connected via HDMI, Setup and System Menus don't work! No HD inputs!
I was hoping this unit would be the "Holy Grail" of combo player/recorders, but its not. I now understand it is discontinued. When connected to my 1080p LCD TV via HDMI you cannot use the SetUp or System Menus! They briefly flash across the screen but then you get a totally gray screen so you cannot see the menus! The unit displays correctly via composite and component connections. The workaround is to press "System Menu", you get a brief display of the "System Menu then the Gray Screen. At this point, shut the unit off and then restart, the menu then displays. My setup is as follows: 1. Charter Digital HD Cable Service to a Charter/Motorola HD PVR, 2. connection to the RDR-VXD655 via composite and coaxial inputs, (this is a crime! I get beautiful HD from my PVR but Sony and all other manufacturers REFUSE to allow you to connect and record in anything other than SD!! 3. HDMI to my 1080p LCD I bought and returned the product to Amazon.com as defective. Hope the next generation of this unit fixes these issues.

Pros: Good Specs and features
Cons: HDMI output not working
I bought this unit to be compatable with my old Sony Digital8 camcorder and my new Sony TV LCD Flat Panel, when I got home and hooked it up the the setup menu would not work, took it back to Best Buy and they said it was defective and gave me a new unit, I got it home and the setup menu still will not work (using HDMI cable). I tried to hook it up with S-Video cable and it works. This is the 2nd unit that HDMI hookup dose not work on. I am on my way back to Best Buy for them to check this one out and maybe find one that works.
