Using integrated Bluetooth® wireless technology, focus on the road ahead instead of your phone. By pairing your Bluetooth®-enabled phone to your Nav-U portable satellite navigation system you can make and receive calls on the go.
With a touch-screen comes control via simple, on-screen finger movements. Commonly used commands such as ‘take me home’ may be accessed by gesturing an inverted ‘V’ on the screen versus paging through numerous menu screens.
The NV-U83T comes pre-loaded with Map Content covering the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Enjoy powerful, portable navigation out of the box!
TTS (Text to Speech) also eliminates second-guessing when making a turn; the device utilizes spoken commands ensuring you are able to follow the directions by street names.
Using the Sony-unique Super Suction Cup, mounting a Nav-U portable satellite navigation system to either the dashboard, console, or windshield in virtually any vehicle is quick and easy. Stable and secure while driving, the Nav-U portable satellite navigation system can be easily removed whenever you want to take it with you.
Dual View capability displays dynamic route information, in addition to the conventional map view, to provide an even clearer view of what’s around the bend or in a highway merge scenario, which Junction to take.
Even if GPS signals are temporarily interrupted, such as when driving in a tunnel, the Nav-U NV-U83T will keep you on-track. Position Plus uses multiple sensors to monitor your position relative to the map, so you can continue without worry of losing your way.
Step away from standard GPS mapping and towards a more complete navigation solution. Real Time Traffic Information radio reception allows the NV-U83T to constantly monitor relevant traffic conditions and automatically re-route you around trouble spots!

Pros: Great picture, easy to use
Cons: poor Blue Tooth
The blue tooth works but you need to be 2 feet away and talk load for the other person to hear you. Otherwise it has been very usefull. The updating feature works great. It should also have an option to take main roads or back roads.
Pros: Gets you there....
Cons: Does little else.
I've owned this amazing GPS unit for two days, but thats all it is to me... Box says 4.8" screen, Bluetooth, MS Pro Duo, Audio output, and SONY. Out of box no mp3/4 capabilities? Why the card slot and headphone out? Bluetooth is ONLY for phones (barely support Motorola, no phone/address book retrevial). Qwerty keyboard and touchscreen would make a very nice Laptop/PS3 input device... Someone in RnD droped the ball, would have paid original MSRP for all that w/o GPS. As it stands though, I paid a third of the retail and it looks as though this'll be another failed experiment for Sony....

I got this NV-U83T when it first came out. It had some glitches but the Sony team has done a few updates and it is now a very good unit. The latest update has added a photo viewer and gas station and foor quick tabs. I like this unit alot!

Pros: Dual View, Ease of Use, Super Suction Cup, POI Icons
Cons: Outdated Maps
I would have given this 5 stars across, if there were updated maps available. It's a Sony product through and through. Easy to use, put together well, sturdy, looks great. The Super Suction Cup works great! The mounting is firm, and stable. I used to have a TomTom, and I'm just as happy with this GPS. Sony needs to come out with new maps though. This comes with maps that over 1 1/2 years old, and there is no mention on their site or Navteq's site on if there will ever be any updates, which scares me a little. Hopefully something soon so I can use the amazing GPS for years to come!

Pros: Pretty screen, huge (comparable) screen
Cons: Slow access to satellites, not Mac Compatible, irratic re-mapping when off route. sometimes difficult to remap routes.
System Requirements / Specifications fail to reveal that this product's software only runs on Microsoft Operating Systems. You have to buy it to discover - hidden in the manual - that Mac and Linux systems aren't supported.

Pros: Huge screen compaired to 3.5 and 4.3. Points of interest include the grocery stores I deliver to.
Cons: Not 100% taylor made for truckers, but still a good choice.
I just started a job driving a tractor-trailer to grocery stores throughout NJ, NY, PA, CT, and other areas. The "just for truckers" GPS's offered on other websites seem to be too expensive, and yet still seem to have their faults. The company who produces them doesn't seem to be very well known in the GPS community. I feel if you spend over $400 for a GPS, it should work 100% without faults. But, looking at product reviews on other websites, the "truck GPS" company still doesn't have all the bugs worked out of their software. Sony is a great brand, so it's safe to say they will always "be there" to offer help if any is needed. Even though the Sony doesn't offer truck height, weight, width, or Haz class restrictions, I still consider it a great choice for truckers. Just keep an eye on the road the GPS is telling you to go on. Check for weight and height restrictions and you'll be okay. The large 4.8 inch screen dwarfs the typical 3.5 and 4.3 inch screens on other brand GPS's. Screen size is of big importance to truckers. We can't take our eyes off the road for too long just to try and focus on a small GPS screen. The automatic split-screen function is also a cool feature. This is my first GPS, so I don't know if others also include that feature. My GPS only "screwed up" twice. (No big deal, I knew where I was going.) I checked the esupport website and found a (FREE) software/firmware update is available for my GPS. In closing, buy it, you won't be sorry.
