Pros: Lightweight, versatile, economically priced, great price for value.
Cons: Included software not Mac compatible
After over 15 years of using various Sony compact cassette recorders, I felt it was time to "step-up" to the 21st century and finally purchase a digital voice recorder. Being a musician and composer, I have depended on Sony recorders to tape rehearsals, songs ideas, etc. and to this extent, they have never disappointed. In fact, when I purchased the ICD-P620, I was still using a recently purchased Sony TCM-400DV but upgraded so that I could easily transfer recordings between the unit and my PC. Once again, Sony has hit the mark with this compact unit; It is simple to operate, filled with great features and a great value for the price! The LCD screen is easy to read and the system operates (for the most part) the same as a tape cassette type recorder. The P620 is also very light and compact and will fit into any sized pocket and though it might feel a bit like a toy, this unit does what it is supposed to do and does it well! Finally, the ability to transfer files (back and forth) between the P620 and a PC is very helpful as it allows one to archive files for future access. One small issue: The included software is Windows compatible only, hence, Mac users without the Intel processor are not able to take advantage of this feature. Overall, I am sure that there could of been other features built into the P620, but those additions would have probably boosted the price, as well. Hence, "it is what it is" and I have recommended this unit to all of the musicians I have worked with who are/were looking for an economical way to record music and/or voice notes. For these reasons, I think it is the perfect companion for anyone who needs an easy and cost effective way to record.

I bought this for interviews, so that I could avoid too much note taking when working on an article. The small size and the amazing pick up on the microphone has come in handy at conferences and events. I really like the placement of the buttons that make it dead easy to use in low light. Battery life is excellent. I only wish it came with a flash memory slot.
