Very pleased.

Pros: lots of connections

Cons: ?

Purchased cheaper through online seller. Unit fairly easy to setup w/ digital cable box, dvd, and tv. Enjoy having the different sound schemes based on the content playing or the movie genre. Lots of buttons on remote i haven't figured out yet due to my own lack of effort. Would highly recommend.

Good system, but needed repair after 3 months

Pros: Price, features, sleek design

Cons: Reliability, doesn't look like the pic

Bought this system back in Jan. along with a Sony 42" BRAVIA HDTV, and Blu-Ray player. First, the unit does not look like the picture shown on the SonyStyle.com site (neither does the Blu-ray, for that matter). But more importantly, the system needed to be sent in for repair less than 3 months of use (cost me $30 S&H) It was repaired and returned in a timely manner - and it actually sounds better now than it did when it first came out of the box - however, I'm obviously worried about its overall reliability because of the incident. Overall, the unit looks good, sounds good, and works well for the size of my living room (15' x 20'). Would recommend on the basis that the problem with this unit may have been an anomaly.

Missing Remote Control

Pros: Nice price, nice looking Unit

Cons: Missing Remote Control

Researched for weeks, and decided on this unit because of the price and the available HDMI inputs. Found a store in town that had one in stock and bought it. Got the unit home and opened the box and took inventory of all parts. The Remote Control was MISSING!! Called Sony's customer service line and a Remote Control will be here in 7 to 10 days. Don't have more of a review to write other than this. Unit is still in the box waiting for the rest of the parts to show up.

Great Sound System

Pros: Easy setup.

Cons: Lacks a universal remote - And that's a picky con.

The HT-SS2300 is the third home theater system I've owned. My old systems lacked the audio power I really wanted, and source switching was not easy. With this Sony system, the sound is extremely clear and floor shakes from the thunderous bass. The three HDMI inputs make it easy to switch the audio and video signals between my X-Box, DVD Player and Cable Box. My previous systems did not allow this. The HT-SS2300 is a smart budget minded system, and it would be a great addition to any home theater. Features I really like: Easy hook up. Easy to use. Power. HDMI switching. You will not be disappointed with this Home Theater "Budget-Conscious" System.

Love It

Pros: better than expected. Easy to set up. Powerfil speakers. Good communication by central unit.

Cons: NONE

I just purchased and installed my HT-SS2300 system. I got a sony blue ray player for xmas and bought this as a compliment. I think it is awesome. The sound is impressive! Setup was a breeze. I love how it tells you what sound service is being broadcast (based on what is coming in). I love the three HDMI inputs which provide the best possible sound from your HD cable box, your dvd player and game console. I am enjoying it very much and would highly recommend it. BTW - i was suspicious of the speaker wires that came with because they looked small and thin but they provide great sound as is. My room is a mid sized livingroom and it is more than enough. I bought a Logitech Harmony 550 and love that too which makes use so much easier.

happy new owner

Pros: good sound, slim profile, DTS via HDMI

Cons: radio does not feature RDS (unless you have CEK or CEL model)

Got a good deal on one of these from a local big box store liquidation sale. Roughly set it up in cramped apartment living room. Previously I was getting by ok with a creative/cambridge DTT-3500 computer 5.1 sound system. It lacked DTS and a tuner. So I decided to go with this to match my Sony blu-ray BDP-BX1. First thing I noticed is the speaker wire gauge seems quite small compared to what I had before. Also The DTT-3500 has gold connections where as this Sony does not. One of the things I wanted to check out is whether or not I could actually get DTS through the HDMI connection. I see a lot of folks in Amazon's and other forums claimed and complained it would not. Guess what? It does. Just as manual's for both BD player and HT-SS2300 says it does. DTS scrolls across display window when I switch between different DTS sources and change tracks of DTS audio recordings. I am happy with that. No need for separate optical cable. Just set BD player's audio output priority for HDMI, DTS set for DTS; HT-SS2300 video menu: "audio for HDMI" set for AMP. We watched Mamma Mia! (blu ray/dts) and was amazed at wonderful audio clarity. I had to reduce center channel volume to -5 to suit us. But, we are hearing subtle things we never heard before all around us. Then I cranked volume to 30 and tried a couple DTS audio cd's and again was amazed as a 2-8-4 steam locomotive passed though the living room. And again with a SR-71 fly by. Now I did notice the sub woofer likes to vibrate at those loud low frequencies. So for this demonstarion I reduced the SW by -5 and also (in this case) needed to reduce SL and SR by -6 as well. I realise this is not a $5000 system and these kinds of demos do show that. Never the less the wife complained the windows were vibrating throughout the house. ha ha tee hee. Needed to reset levels back for TV. Have not done the auto calibration thing yet. For now I manually estimated and set the speaker distances. HDTV dolby digital sounds good. Was disapointed the radio does not feature RDS. As I had assumed and was looking forward to that feature. My Chevy Trailblazer has it. and that's 6 years old. Why not on the HT-SS2300. The manual says something about "area codes" My unit is a "U" I assume that is U.S.? Don't know where CEL and CEK is. Or why they would have it and not us. Unless there is some legality/fee issue. ps. was going to watch the super bowl but got hooked on classical music (of all things) on one of comcast's audio channels. sounds really good!

Sony HT-SS2300

Pros: HDMI connections, sound, ease of use

Cons: speaker wire

Very good product that is easy to use. The sound is very good and the small size of the unit is a plus. You get a lot of outstanding features in this unit for the price. This unit works great with a BD player that internally decodes DTS-HD. I've owned this system for 2 months and have had no issues whatsoever. The speaker wire is very thin and if you wanted to use a thicker gauge speaker wire you would have to splice the wire due to the speaker connectors.
