we needed to replace a 36" old toshiba. my wife would agree to a 40" but the 46" was too big. As i measured the surface area of the 36" vs the 46", they were about the same size. i am happy we went larger! my neighbor is a tech geek and told me i needed a "z" series sony. as i looked at all the brands and pricing i was not sure i wanted to spend the extra money until considered i will have the tv for 15 years, it is worth 20.00 per year. quite a few of the reviews talked about viewing angle, they are wrong. the color is strong regardless of the angle. my neighbor also gave me a dvd with plastic color strips so i could "tune" the tv's color, it perfect out of the box. i did not understand all the added features the "z" offered looking at the specs but the menu, tv guide, etc is something i love. We have 5 tv's in the house, and this is my first sony. The others are Toshiba. It is clear to me why many consider sony the best.

Pros: Picture Quality, Ease of use.
Cons: None so far.
I don't see the picture being as bad as some people are saying when viewed from an angle. I often watch this TV from an angle and have not noticed as bad a picture to warrant the bad rating it has received from some reviewers. All things being equal this is a great TV.

I upgraded from a sony crt flatscreen. some of my friends have purchased other brand name lcd tvs at a cheaper price. this tv is far superior and is well worth the money. i only have basic cable with 5 hd channels. my cable is only 420i and the picture is great with no pixeling and amazing colors. the 1080i and dvd is awsome. the 120hz and motionflow works. no flutter or jittering, just a smooth picture like my old tube tv. this tv can be fine tuned to anyones desire. plenty inputs / outputs. loaded with extra features. i have a sony 5.1 home theatre but the sound from the tv speakers is great by themself
16:9 Full HD 1080p resolution panel (1920x1080) accepts any HDTV signal and renders it with optimum resolution.
BRAVIA Engine™ fully digital video processor uses a collection of unique Sony® algorithms to significantly reduce noise, enhance overall image detail, and optimize contrast so every scene produces sharp, vibrant, life-like images.
24p True Cinema™ mode enables you to enjoy films at their intended 24 fps (frames per second) when viewed using a 24p capable output device, such as a Blu-ray Disc™ player.
Live Color Creation™ technology with WCG-CCFL backlight uses advanced chroma signal processing to widen the color reproduction range for overall more natural and vibrant colors.
Sony® has integrated the TV Guide® Interactive Program Guide into the exclusive Xross Media Bar™ user interface to deliver regularly updated program listings.
BRAVIA® Z-Series HDTVs offer four HDMI™ inputs (up to 1080/60p capable) that transmit uncompressed digital video and multi-channel audio over one cable, as well as two HD component connections (1080/60p capable), giving you the flexibility you need to connect the latest video sources.
DMex™ functionality3 expands your HDTV’s capabilities by letting you connect optional BRAVIA® Link modules, including the BRAVIA® Internet Video Link, BRAVIA® DVD Link, BRAVIA® Wireless Link and BRAVIA® Input Link (all sold separately).
Dynamic Video Noise Reduction adaptive technology analyzes the motion, sharpness, and brightness of each scene in real time to identify various types of noise and reduce unwanted artifacts without compromising the video signal.
10-bit processor and 10-bit panel combine to create 64 times the levels of expression versus 8-bit panels, resulting in smoother transitions from color to color and faithful reproduction of subtle color changes.
Xross Media Bar™ (XMB™) makes it simple and intuitive to navigate the television's menus, controls, and user settings.
BRAVIA® Sync capability4 allows you to control CEC-enabled components connected via HDMI™ input. Use your BRAVIA® HDTV remote control to play Blu-ray Disc™ or DVD movies, access home theater settings, and even operate compatible Handycam® camcorders with a convenient on-screen display.
VESA® compatible hole spacing uses an industry-standard mounting hole pattern that can be used with VESA-compliant mounting brackets, taking the guesswork out of selecting the proper hardware for hanging your HDTV on the wall.
Motionflow™ 120Hz technology doubles the number of frames in incoming video content by creating and inserting sixty entirely new frames between the existing sixty frames in real time. In addition to creating new frames, Motionflow™ 120Hz technology also includes an Image Blur Reduction algorithm, which reduces source image blur captured by the camera, as well as a de-juddering circuit to help reduce jerking and stuttering during sweeping pans. The end result is smoother, more fluid motion that delivers a natural and realistic viewing experience.
Advanced Contrast Enhancer circuit (ACE) dynamically improves contrast, resulting in deep blacks in darker scenes without losing fine details in shadows and other dark areas of the picture.
DLNA® (Digital Living Network Alliance) compliance allows BRAVIA® Z-Series HDTVs to access digital photos from DLNA-enabled PCs and other devices2.
The Digital Media Port allows the use of an optional Digital Media Port cradle (sold separately to connect compatible digital devices directly to your BRAVIA® HDTV.
Favorites and Photo Slideshow functions feature rich 3D graphics that make it easy and fun to quickly access video content and digital photos to share with family and friends.

Pros: vivid picture, looks great with thin bezel, looks great sitting on console
Cons: none so far!
We've only had this tv set up for a couple weeks but so far it is stunning. Even hooked up to regular satellite signal the picture was great and now that we upgraded to hd service it is awesome. The speakers sounded very good and if we hadn't already purchased at the same time the hdx576wf home theatre system we probably wouldn't have felt we needed it We just got that hooked up,watched a regular dvd last night and the detail was incredible. We've had good luck with sony's in the past and hope to have the same with this tv and home theatre system. Can't wait to try out the other features, pc and mp3 capabilities on the home theatre!
