Love Hate Relationship

Pros: Great Videos Focusing Macro Zoom

Cons: Program Noise Battery Life

I had this Camera since 11/10/2008. It takes great pictures on ISO 80 while moving. Unbelievable. I took pictures while on top of a mountain and took great quality pictures. But the best part to me about it is the Macro options. Taking pictures as close as I can get and the results of the pictures are flawless. Posting the videos online is great too! Better than any quality video I've seen online so far. But only 10 mins long of video time is discouraging but then it is a camera. Another thing that I like is when I take a picture the person and the background is in focus. oOo0o the zooming!!!!!!!!! 10x zoom is a dream!!!!!! I'm used to 3x on other cameras which is such a drag. But the 10x zoom. LOVE IT!!!! What I don't like about the camera is Flipping the image clock or counter clock wise. I go through soOo0o many steps to do just one thing! On the T700 it's a one button step! But it's only temporary on that camera. Even so It's super annoying flipping the pictures. Another thing is the noise. I find that a lot of times I take pictures I get noise on my camera on automatic. So I'm practically forced to go manual. Which I don't mind at times. Although I'm always in different scenarios and I have to switch back and forth the programs and by the time I switch I can't take the picture cause the moment has gone by. Last the battery life. I hate that it drains soOo0o quickly! Two batteries aren't even enough. I might as well get four more in the future. On top of that taking the battery out or installing it is a nightmare that I may break off the lid that holds the battery in! One of my worst fears on that camera is that thing alone. Even though there's a lot of flaws. I do love this camera. A love hate relationship I'm willing to work on. I actually have a T50 SLR which is a year older than I am. HaHaHa And that camera right there is gold!

I've had this product for less than a month

I had for several years what was at the time the thinnest, lightest, and most well designed digital snap camera, also made by Sony, the T 7. I knew that with the advance of technology, 5 mgs was fine but I wanted 10 mgs so on my veture to find a replacement, the only choice I had was another Sony. This one gives me the same compact features, just slightly thicker footprint, but with the digital video 720p wide screen capability, my choices were made for me! The quality of the images, digital stills AND digital video, are nothing short of SUPERB!!!! Knowing that everywhere I go, I can reach in my pocket and take photos and videos without the bulk of the standard video camcorders, I am ready to continue to capture those moments in life! And WITHOUT having to say, "wow, I sure wish I had a camera for that sunset, or that smiling child's face"....and to top it off, with the higher quality video, (the T7 had video too, but quality of video was basic), I can now take full advantage of viewing these videos on my Sony 50 inch flat panel! I only wished that the smile detect feature was included, but that is a small sacrifice for all else this camera offers! Sharing the wonders of life with family and friends is really why most of us purchase cameras, so if you can afford this camera, and want the benefit of higher rez video, this IS the camera for YOU!

10.1 Megapixel Super HAD™ CCD Image Sensor

A powerful 10.1 megapixel 1/2.3” Super HAD™ CCD image sensor helps you capture gorgeous images with superb contrast and clarity down to the finest detail. With 10.1 megapixels, you can create stunning, photo-quality prints up to A3 size, or crop your images and still come away with high resolution shots.

HD Movie

With the Sony® Cyber-shot® DSC-T500, you can quickly and easily record video in 720p high definition1, and even take up to three pictures per movie sequence while shooting5. HD videos are recorded in the MPEG4 AVC/H.264 format, which offers superb image quality in a smaller file size than other comparable video formats13. This smaller file size lets you record more to your Memory Stick Duo™ Media, as well as upload them to Internet sharing sites8 to share with friends and family.

Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization

Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization compensates for camera shake to help prevent blur without sacrificing image quality.

Red-eye Correction:

Reduces common red-eye problems.

Function Guide

This beginner-friendly optional function helps navigate through the various functions and settings displaying the description of chosen functions or settings on the LCD screen.

Memory Stick Duo™ Media Convenience

A built-in slot accepts Memory Stick Duo™ Media or Memory Stick PRO Duo™ Media. Both sold separately.

BRAVIA® Sync™

When connected to a BRAVIA® Sync™ enabled BRAVIA® HDTV via HDMI™ output on the supplied multi-output stand (HDMI™ cable required, sold separately), the Cyber-shot® playback screen will automatically display, and you can control camera playback using your BRAVIA® HDTV remote control. Just press the Sync button on the remote to display a dedicated menu. Such easy operation makes viewing your photos and videos on a large-screen TV even more enjoyable9.

PHOTOMUSIC feature

PHOTOMUSIC3 combines images with music to produce fun and entertaining slide shows. Select from five visual effects (Simple, Basic, Nostalgic, Active, and Stylish) and four pre-loaded tracks on camera or transfer your own music from a PC.

Picture Motion Browser ver. 3.1

Sony® Picture Motion Browser (PMB) software provides a simple, easy-to-use way to transfer video8 and still images to your PC4, as well as sort, edit, and output to data disc and the Internet8.

3.5" Clear Photo LCD Plus™ Touch-Screen Display

Compose and review your images on a large, bright 3.5"2 widescreen LCD (230K) display, and use the touch-screen interface to navigate menus, specify focus points, or zoom in on the pictures you've taken for a closer look at details.

Double Anti-blur Solution

The combination of Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization and High ISO sensitivity helps compensate for shaky hands, minimizes blur, and allows flash-free shooting to preserve the mood.

High Sensitivity Mode for Movies

When shooting movies in low-light situations, you can use High Sensitivity mode to help ensure clear results.

Burst Mode

You can fire up to 100 shots at approximately .74 second intervals (at any resolution; VGA to high resolution mode).

4MB Internal Memory

With 4MB10 of internal memory, you can still capture a limited number of shots, even without Memory Stick Duo™ Media inserted.

HDTV Compatibility

View your photos and movies in high definition on your Sony® BRAVIA® or similar compatible HDTV using the supplied multi-output stand with HDMI™ connectivity7. Just connect the multi-output stand to an HDTV with an HDMI™ cable (sold separately), then place your Cyber-shot® DSC-T500 on the stand. It’s the perfect way to share your memories with friends and family members.

Wide Zoom display

To use the entire image area of the compatible HDTV screen, Wide Zoom display automatically expands standard 4:3 and 3:2 images to 16:9.

Multi-Purpose Resize function

The Multi-Purpose Resize function lets you change the aspect ratio of an image right in the camera, so you can adjust images as necessary, whether you want to display them on a compatible HDTV, email them or upload them to a blog6.

Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® 5x Optical Zoom Lens

The newly developed Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® lens enables close-up shooting up to just .39” (1cm) from the subject (in Magnifying Glass Mode), while the optical 5x telescopic zoom offers superior visual acuity for a compact digital camera.

Face Detection technology

Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and controls flash, focus, and exposure to deliver accurate, natural skin tones with reduced red-eye.

High Sensitivity ISO 3200

High ISO settings up to 3200 allow for faster shutter speed, so you can take pictures indoors or in low light without the need for a flash.

Convenient photo modes

Choose from eleven convenient photo modes to quickly adjust for specific shooting conditions. Photo modes include Auto, Program Auto, and Scene selections, such as High Sensitivity, Soft Snap, Twilight Portrait, Twilight, Landscape, High Speed Shutter, Beach, Snow, and Fireworks.

16:9 High Resolution Mode

Using the 16:9 High Resolution Mode, you can record high resolution images in the 16:9 aspect ratio favored by HDTVs. This setting is ideal if you plan to view your images on a compatible HDTV and invite friends and family members over for a slideshow.

Stamina® Battery Power

Provides extended battery life and shooting capacity when using a fully-charged lithium-ion battery. The included battery supports up to 160 shots11.

PhotoTV HD

Bring your photos to life and enjoy highly detailed, HD 1080i images with PhotoTV HD-capable Sony® BRAVIA® HDTVs12. PhotoTV HD fine tunes settings on your HDTV, such as sharpness, gradation, and color to display images that look more like actual printed photographs.

In-Camera Retouching Tools

Retouch and enhance your pictures on the go with three in-camera editing functions: Trimming, Red-Eye Correction, and Partial Color.

I only wished that the smile detect feature was included, but that is a small sacrifice for all else this camera offers! Sharing the wonders of life with family and friends is really why most of us purchase cameras, so if you can afford this camera, and want the benefit of higher rez video, this IS the camera for YOU!

Love this camera!

Pros: Great pictures & hd video from such a small device!

Cons: Battery Life

This is an upgrade from my T1 that was stolen in December. The T500 pictures I have taken have turned out great! I took a close up of my hubby's eye using the macro.. the clarity and detail was amazing. The HD video and audio is better than my camcorder. The only major drawback that I have is the battery runs out quickly and I'd recommend getting at least one extra battery for backup. Five days after I bought it I was running into a store from the parking lot and it fell out of my pocket bouncing and rolling end over end. I was sick watching it. Picked it up and other than a couple scratches it worked perfectly fine.

Half of it works, the other half doesn't

Pros: decent video

Cons: terrible picture quality in10.1 megapixel, poor battery life, cloudy video at night with normal inside lighting,

I have had this camera now for several months. I got one of the first production models. The picture quality is basically horrible for a camera of this price and resolution. I have taken pictures from a tripod on 10 second timer in normal daytime light inside on auto and the picture is blurry. The camera works better in low light. The video works better in normal light. The video is very good on HD only and that is the best part of this product. I found that a hand held mini tripod is the best way to take video. It is cumbersome to hold the camera when taking video of any length. As others have said, the battery life is marginal at best and make sure you carry an extra battery if you intend to shoot any kind of video. If you have any minor hand movement when taking HD video the picture will jump all over the board.

Pros: design is perfect

Cons: short battery life, need 2 battery back-up

I own an 46" XBR4 and I bought this camera to shoot video at concerts and family events. It is nothing short of incredible .Looks and feels amazing. Stereo sound crystal clear, Worth every dollar, just like the XBR 4, Buy it!, won't be disappointed, really nice. Sony did it again!I Works great with the Apple Mac Book Pro. Looking forward to doing some You-Tube killer videos.

kinda disappointed

Pros: fast response times and pictures are recalled from memory instantly

Cons: almost no manual control, picture quality is a sad average, the high ISO actually specks your pics badly

Unfortunately this camera is not worth the $400. The picture quality is not what I expected from Sony. The video is 720p, but the 30 frame rate is jittery on a large screen. The HDMI cable is obviously not included. Battery life is extremely bad, with the battery loosing charge in 1 to 2 days (with the camera just sitting there). Although a charger is included, it would have been much more convenient to include a DC cable for the docking base, which Sony also failed to include (even though the base has the port for it, and it is the unusual Sony square design). The camera lacks manual control, you can't change the aperture or the exposure speed, the camera conveniently (NOT) does that for you at the wrong times. The only pro is that the response time of the camera is not bad, if you buy the memory stick pro duo MARK 2. With any other memory stick, the camera won't even be able to record video.

Upset

Pros: the touch screen is the best part of the camera.

Cons: The battery is no good

I'm very upset with this camera... I paid so much and was very disappointed... I have a canon that was cheaper and takes better pictures... I guess this camera should not be used for taking pictures but is very good for the HD Movie...Hopefully the battery doesn't run out on you when recording.
