Record in style. The ultra-compact DCR-SX41 Handycam® camcorder can record video to 8GB of embedded memory or convenient, removable Memory Stick Duo™ or Memory Stick PRO Duo™ media. A professional-quality Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® lens delivers sharp, high-resolution images and its 60x optical zoom helps you capture extreme close-ups from far away. Sharp and stylish, the SR47 is available in silver, red, and blue.
8GB1 of embedded memory can record and store up to almost 6 hours of video footage (SD LP mode).
Hybrid recording technology delivers a new level of flexibility of capturing and transferring your video footage and digital photos from the camcorder to compatible viewing devices. Record to 8GB1 embedded flash memory or choose instead to record to removable Memory Stick PRO Duo™ media (sold separately). You can even select from various dubbing functions to easily copy video or still images from the embedded flash media to the Memory Stick PRO Duo™ media -- without using a PC.
The 2.7" wide touch panel3 LCD display provides exceptional viewing clarity with 123K pixels resolution. The display rotates up to 270 degrees for multiple viewing angles, as well as provides sharp, detailed images for monitoring or playback. The convenient touch panel allows easy access to menus and additional functionality such as spot focus and spot metering.
Sony Picture Motion Browser software offers a simple, intuitive way to transfer, sort, and view your video and still images on your compatible PC. In addition, multiple output options let you burn your memories to DVD (sold separately), as well as take advantage of one click upload to a number of popular video and photo sharing sites9 .
Like chapters in a book, Film Roll Index helps you easily find desired scenes in video footage. When using this feature, the camcorder previews the beginning of scenes and can create scene indexes set at specified display intervals (3, 6, or 12 seconds and 1 or 5 minutes).
The Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® lens is designed specifically for compact camcorders, and utilizes precision ground optics to maintain the sharpness and contrast found in larger lenses.
The DCR-SX41 supports a direct connection to the VRD-P1 DVD burner (sold separately), which allows you to burn DVDs directly from your camcorder without the need for a PC. And because the VRD-P1 is powered by your camcorder, you don't need an additional AC power cable.
The built-in zoom microphone focuses audio recording on your subjects with the camera's zoom lens, helping memories ring true with clear dialogue and crisp, discrete sounds.
Using a camcorder can be intimidating for some people. With a press of the Easy Handycam Button, most of the advanced features of the camcorder are "locked out," letting you focus only the buttons essential for recording.
A USB 2.0 interface provides an easy way to connect your camcorder to a compatible PC for fast transfer of video and still images for editing.
Ideal for sporting events, wildlife, or distance shooting, 60X optical zoom brings you closer to the action, so you can capture extremely tight shots, even from far away. In addition, Digital Zoom Interpolation means that extreme digital zooming (up to 2000X) is clearer, with less distortion than previous types of digital zooms.
A 1/8” Advanced HAD™ (Hole Accumulation Diode) CCD imager with 410K (effective) pixel resolution delivers stunning detail and clarity for exceptional video and still image performance.
Power on your camcorder by simply opening the LCD display.
Easily burn a DVD copy of your footage using the supplied PMB (Picture Motion Browser) software9. Simply connect the camcorder to your compatible PC via a USB cable and press the One Touch Disc Burn Button.12
Face Index makes it easier than ever to find and play back the right video scene. Using Face Detection technology, Face Index indexes your video footage according to the faces detected in each scene. When it’s time to play back video, simply search for what you want by selecting from among the detected faces displayed in the index.

I've had this product for 3-6 months
Pros: Light, easy to use, easy to sync with mac
Cons: Battery needs camcorder to charge
I bought this after doing a lot of research. I needed a camcorder to video our first child and it does great! I must say that people need to be realistic. This is NOT a HD camera, it will NOT look as good as an HDDVD or BLURAY! If you view it on a large HDTV screen you WILL notice it isn't as good as your Hollywood movies. You NEED a VERY expensive HD digital camera with Final Cut Studio or something similar to even come close to the quality some people are asking for. This camera is just an affordable way to record family memories. It fits in my wife's purse and it is really easy for a non-video professional to use. I got EXACTLY what I expected and it works great with my Macbook Pro. Please note, I am running the latest mac OSX Snow Leopard and iLife 09.

I bought this camera just before a cruise to the bahamas, the videos are great, but the quality of the still pictures is terrible. I see posts here that they are terrific, so if someone can give me insight into this that would be great. Every picture I took with this camera is not printable and I am so disappointed.

I've had this product for 1-3 months
Pros: Small, compact, great battery life, external flash
Cons: Photo quality, no viewfinder, no flash
After reading the reviews online I was debating between the HD (High Definition) and this SX41. With regret, despite the cost difference, I should have gone with a HD. There is no point on saving money if it doesnt work well. Generally the cameras operations are good. Easy to use menu, quick startup to capture video. However, if you want video and photo quality this isnt the best camera. Having upgraded from miniDV- I lost a lot of video and photo quality. I was looking for a device that I could use both as for video and photo capture. The photos quality is about a 3" x4" for printing. Thats horrible. I was told it could do a 5" x 7" by the customer service representative- but that was far from the truth. I bought the camera and went to Asia. Now that I have returned I have okay video quality footage but horrible photo quality. Minor issues but related to all cameras of this type- you have to have the video display on to video as there is no viewfinder or video display off (the display off button just turns off the text information) to save on battery. Also while this takes decent footage with low light a small flash for closeups would be nice. Looks like ebay for this guy.

Pros: small, easy to use, takes great videos
Cons: non yet
I bought this camera, and I have a brand new All in One iMac. This camera DOES work with a Mac. Some reviews say it is not compatible, but it is. Even Sony's advertisements say it will not work with the Mac OS, but IT DOES!! With a Mac, you do not need to install any software to run the program. All you do is plug in the camera to your Mac and iMovie does the rest. It is very simple!

Pros: Compact, Light, Reliable, 60X Optical Zoom, Swivel/Touch Screen.
Cons: Hard to Upload Videos Onto Mac.
I really really love this camera. It's my first camcorder I've ever had, but I think it was very simple to figure out. It has great audio quality as well as great visual quality. It's even better because of it's LCD screen, which is a touchscree, 270 swivel screen, and a widescreen. The only thing I don't like about it, however, is the fact that it cannot upload videos onto the mac with Sony software. However, I found a way through searching in the internet. 1) Download this app. http://www.squared5.com/ 2) Then, go onto the apple website and purchase MPEG-2 Playback. Then, you're ready to go. Aside from that, I think the camera is one of the best I've ever seen. 4 Stars only because of the download problem.
