Pros: Affordable and easily installed
Cons: Easy of use
The manual's utility is marginal. In a cable TV use, there is no ability to control the 285 with a universal remote. The Sony site is of no use and typical code entry techniques do not work. So multiple remotes are necessary, or the Home entertainment systems has to be turn off. These isn't features that should be proprietary.

Pros: Good sound when working
Cons: the subwoofer stooped working within 3 months
I thought I was buying a nice system instead within 3 months the subwoofer stopped working. When I try to purchase a new one it turns out is only sold with the home entertainment and not even customer suport can tell me where to purchase a new subwoofer. This is the 2nd sony system and last I purchase.

Pros: easy to set-up, great sound
Cons: does NOT zoom in on widescreen DVD's
This is a very easy to set-up system with great sound. I bought this to go with my new 47" widescreen HDTV. For the most part, I am very happy EXCEPT--- the salesman "told" me that I would be able to zoom in (change aspect) of widescreen movies on my DVD's. I AM NOT!!! My husband refuses to watch a movie with black bars at the top & bottom of the screen. Unfortunately, we own nearly 800 movies (many of which are in widescreen). Therefore we had to ALSO hook up our old DVD player in order to watch them on our new TV. So this Sony Home Theater System now plays the sound on TV/Satellite movie channels only and in playing our CD collection.

its a good stereo but if you like a lot of bass then this is'ent the stereo for you
Pros: The wireless system is the best along with S-Air for other rooms.
Cons: Have some control over bass sound since I live above others.
I live in a San Francisco flat that is long and narrow. I wanted music throughout the flat without turning the stereo up or running wires. The wireless S-Air works great. I can listen to music from the living room to the kitchen without distubing the people below. I've had wireless systems before but this one really works.

Pros: Affordiability, Ease of Use, Ease of Setup
Cons: Still have to use two remotes, but I can live with that!
I bought this to go with a 32" Bravia TV, and wow. This system is amazing, 5 disc changer, FM, AM, IPod dock, 1000 watts, this shakes my whole house when I have it turned up! The night mode is awesome! The sound is perfect, and SO SO SO easy to hook up, and I have never never hooked up a home theatre system before. This is a great product for anyone!

Pros: Easy to use after set-up
Cons: Setting it up
Great sound and picture quality. One thing that I like is that you can handle most functions with the buttons on the front of the unit....don't always have to use the remote. Had a hard time finding the right setting to get sound out of the rear speakers when listening to the radio or a CD....but eventually figured it out. The speaker calibration was great. Actually hooked the system up to in-ceiling speakers which worked great....still use the center and sub. Wanted one system with one remote to run the radio, CDs and DVDs and couldn't be happier.
