Pros: long batt. life, portability,
Cons: none
I have to say that this has got to be the best thing I have ever purchased. Never having to carry around two or three books anymore. Always having it right in my bag, doesn't take up a lot of space and absolutely thrilled with the way it works. If I could I would get one for everyone in my family. I only charge it about once every three weeks for about an hour and take it and go. Love this item. LOVE IT!!!!

Pros: Screen size, portability, clarity
Cons: none
I received this reader for my birthday after fully researching all available readers. I was worried that the screen would not be large enough, and am happy to report that my fears were unfounded. The design is beautiful, the pages are easy to read- and best of all, I can borrow books effortlessly (for free) from my public library. I hate for my subway ride to end each day since I'm now fully absorbed in my reading. My only complaint- is the Sony E-store is not much fun to browse. I would recommend a design update.

Pros: Easy to handle, lightweight
Cons: No expandable memory
The sony reader reads just like a real book. I've needed this for the last 5 years. Now I can download books instead of buying the physical book. I am a bookworm and have too many books in my house. This will help alot. When I run out of memory, I will just take the books off the reader (and leave them on my computer of course). A++++++++

Pros: Long battery life, convenient, easy to read
Cons: No backlight?
The reader is great! Somehow the schools have got to move from hard copy to electronic and this should be it! The ad says to expect 2 weeks on battery. I bought mine the last week of sept, this is now second week of November...and I'm recharging it for the first time. I've read 6 books on it in this time. When you get immersed in the book you will often forget it is not hardcopy and try to "flip" the page...that is how similar it feels to printed material.

Pros: Size, Ease of Use, Durability, Color Choices, Quality
I have owned this product for only two weeks, but have already read four books on it. I compared the Reader Pocket to the Reader Touch before buying, and selected the Pocket because of the lack of glare and the size - I have small hands, and the entire device fits comfortably in one hand or both hands without being heavy, and I can access the page turn buttons without interrupting my reading. When I examined the device in person, I was surprised at how much an electronic device could mimic an actual book - great contrast between the text and screen background. I am an avid reader and love to read (and own) books. I bought the Reader Pocket with the intention of using it to read books that I would otherwise buy in paperback. The software is easy to install and use (I use a Mac), it is easy to import PDFs you already own, it is easy to browse the Google free book library within the Sony library software, it is just overall easy to use so you are up and reading in no time. I travel a lot, and the Pocket enables me to carry my leisure reading without having to sacrifice luggage room for work documents. Because I was looking for a device that resembled an actual book as much as possible, I did not want wireless and I did not need a touch screen - I definitely wanted and use the bookmark feature. The only features I find a bit awkward are the right side buttons, but they are becoming less awkward the more I use them. I did purchase the leather cover, which has already come in very handy as it has protected my Pocket from my pets' shedding. Until I found the Sony Reader Pocket, I was mostly against e-Book readers because I thought they took away from the "real" reading experience. However, because this product does such a great job at mimicking an actual book, I have now started to recommend the Reader Pocket to everyone I know who reads.

Pros: Size, price.
Cons: Software, font size chioces, needs page turn on both sides, false advertising lending library capabilities.
Where to begin: the size is good for portability, & price is better than other larger versions. The pros stop there. My primary concerns when buying were portability & the idea of free, lending library. I got one of two. No where did I read that the lending is only from 'select' few libraries around the country; has nothing to do with Sony. I live in a metro. area with over 4 million people, & yet there are no libraries with this lending option; for whatever reason. One can't get a library card to borrow ebooks when you don't live in their specific area. So it's a NO OPTION for me to borrow books. When I brought this up to Sony, their response was, "sorry, you didn't do enough research I guess". I believe it's false advertising on their part and they are the ones who didn't do the research before making this claim. This is no doubt petty to many of you customers, but if borrowing instead of spending $100's is what you're hoping for with this reader, then DON"T buy Sony. True, no others have this capability, but they have other features that are nicer than Sony that I chose to forgo because I wanted the borrow feature so badly. Sony doesn't care about this false advertising; so I am being 100% honest in saying I will NEVER purchase another Sony reader again because of their attitude. Time to check out the competitors I guess.

Pros: Portability, ease of use
Cons: No inbuilt mechanism for reading in dark, ink sometimes faint in full sun conditions, text zoom doesn't work for pdfs
I was surprised how much I liked this - been toying with the idea of getting an eReader for a while and this being a relatively cheap option that was well reviewed I took the plunge - fed up with big hardbacks from the library. At first I was a bit disappointed how much text was displayed on the screen even at the smallest size option - only 17 lines for my first purchased book. But as page turning is so easy this stopped bothering me very quickly. Compared with reading a traditional book and having to hold the pages open to read it is very relaxing to be able to hold the device with one hand (or no hands on a table/chair arm) and just turn pages with the touch of a thumb - works very well sunbathing and to be honest any other time too! I just got a TrendyDigital waterproof case to protect it near water/sand so now I feel confident taking it anywhere...works fine through the plastic cover. My only points of reservation and potential design improvements would be a) some sort of mechanism to allow reading in the dark, b) better performance under full and hot sun - the "ink" faded a bit under these conditions...still readable but not top quality c) ability to increase text size on pdf files - this is a bit irritating...I can scan documents and download onto the eReader but they are impossible to read as the text is so tiny and the text zoom button doesn't work for these However these points don't detract from my overall rating of 5 as it does what it said on the box and I deliberately bought an entry priced model to see how I got on with it...the pdf zoom part is probably the main disappointment for me...but I still love it!

Hi Pinkybluesky. Thanks for posting and I'm happy to hear you are enjoying your Reader. I wanted to let you and all the other folks know that when viewing a PDF file, you can increase / decrease the text size by pressing the (SIZE) button while on the page. When this is pressed the text size is changed and the layout of the page is automatically adjusted to fit the screen size. When you magnify the text on a PDF or EPUB file, the page is divided into multiple sections. To display the rest of the page, press the up / down / left / right buttons. This can also be found on page 44-46 of the Users Guide. Hope this helps and enjoy.

Pros: Portable; inexpensive; functional; efficient; and durable.
Cons: Slow operation response; small vertical buttons; and no Pay Pal option to purchase eBooks.
This device has motivated me to lift both my vocabulary and knowledge. I teach high school students in addition to completing graduate studies; so my time is limited when it comes to reading. Carrying the required notebooks and books daily is a burden alone, so imagine how I felt trying to carry a "leisure" book as well. The idea of knowing how far I have to read in additional to holding the thick books made me stop reading altogether. I was quite a savy reader back in the day; however, my committment to the cause was dwindling quickly. So, I had this burden to bare for I wanted and needed to read for professional growth; and I decided to purchase tis device. Purchasing this device was the BEST decision I made. I literally look forward to reading time at night for I am able to read in my den or in bed with no problems. Since I do not have a "visual" of how far I have to read, I am able to read a book faster than ever before. It would take me 6 months to a year to finish a 200+ page book; yet, it is only taking me 4 days to complete a 242 page book with my eReader. How cool is that!?
