Pros: compact size versus screen size, stunning picture, easy set up
Cons: can't name any
I have been looking for a replacement for my Sony 32" CRT television and this one fit the bill. It was the only 40" set that would fit in my home theater cabinet. I would have had to down size to a 36" set had I not found this one. I did alot of searching for the perfect set and this is it. Great picture, all the conections anyone would need, easy set-up with my Sony home theater and Sony BD player and game systems (I have PS2, PS3, Wii, and 360). This set can't be beat!

I've had this TV (40Z4100) for about 5 weeks. It's too soon to judge reliability. Picture quality (I set it to "standard") is truly excellent -- very true colors, especially on skin tones, terrific contrast, clear motion. Overall, better than many theaters I've been to. Close one eye for the 3-D effect and it's like being at the scene. Sound quality is pretty amazing for built-in speakers; I have a home theater system but haven't got around to adding it, since the TV speakers are doing such a good job (except in deep bass). The TV is still on analog cable, and does a great job tuning the analog channels. But there are also about 28 free digital channels riding on the cable, including about 10 HD; the picture on these is superb. Playback of standard DVDs via a Sony upgrading player over HDMI is also superb. The PC connection and picture slideshows via USB flash drive work great. I really have only one complaint -- drop-off of picture brightness and contrast gets very noticeable by +/- 45 degrees off-center. For my viewing area this isn't too big a deal, but it might be for some people.
16:9 Full HD 1080p resolution panel (1920x1080) accepts any HDTV signal and renders it with optimum resolution.
BRAVIA Engine™ fully digital video processor uses a collection of unique Sony® algorithms to significantly reduce noise, enhance overall image detail, and optimize contrast so every scene produces sharp, vibrant, life-like images.
24p True Cinema™ mode enables you to enjoy films at their intended 24 fps (frames per second) when viewed using a 24p capable output device, such as a Blu-ray Disc™ player.
Live Color Creation™ technology with WCG-CCFL backlight uses advanced chroma signal processing to widen the color reproduction range for overall more natural and vibrant colors.
Sony® has integrated the TV Guide® Interactive Program Guide into the exclusive Xross Media Bar™ user interface to deliver regularly updated program listings.
BRAVIA® Z-Series HDTVs offer four HDMI™ inputs (up to 1080/60p capable) that transmit uncompressed digital video and multi-channel audio over one cable, as well as two HD component connections (1080/60p capable), giving you the flexibility you need to connect the latest video sources.
DMex™ functionality3 expands your HDTV’s capabilities by letting you connect optional BRAVIA® Link modules, including the BRAVIA® Internet Video Link, BRAVIA® DVD Link, BRAVIA® Wireless Link and BRAVIA® Input Link (all sold separately).
Dynamic Video Noise Reduction adaptive technology analyzes the motion, sharpness, and brightness of each scene in real time to identify various types of noise and reduce unwanted artifacts without compromising the video signal.
10-bit processor and 10-bit panel combine to create 64 times the levels of expression versus 8-bit panels, resulting in smoother transitions from color to color and faithful reproduction of subtle color changes.
Xross Media Bar™ (XMB™) makes it simple and intuitive to navigate the television's menus, controls, and user settings.
BRAVIA® Sync capability4 allows you to control CEC-enabled components connected via HDMI™ input. Use your BRAVIA® HDTV remote control to play Blu-ray Disc™ or DVD movies, access home theater settings, and even operate compatible Handycam® camcorders with a convenient on-screen display.
VESA® compatible hole spacing uses an industry-standard mounting hole pattern that can be used with VESA-compliant mounting brackets, taking the guesswork out of selecting the proper hardware for hanging your HDTV on the wall.
Motionflow™ 120Hz technology doubles the number of frames in incoming video content by creating and inserting sixty entirely new frames between the existing sixty frames in real time. In addition to creating new frames, Motionflow™ 120Hz technology also includes an Image Blur Reduction algorithm, which reduces source image blur captured by the camera, as well as a de-juddering circuit to help reduce jerking and stuttering during sweeping pans. The end result is smoother, more fluid motion that delivers a natural and realistic viewing experience.
Advanced Contrast Enhancer circuit (ACE) dynamically improves contrast, resulting in deep blacks in darker scenes without losing fine details in shadows and other dark areas of the picture.
DLNA® (Digital Living Network Alliance) compliance allows BRAVIA® Z-Series HDTVs to access digital photos from DLNA-enabled PCs and other devices2.
The Digital Media Port allows the use of an optional Digital Media Port cradle (sold separately to connect compatible digital devices directly to your BRAVIA® HDTV.
Favorites and Photo Slideshow functions feature rich 3D graphics that make it easy and fun to quickly access video content and digital photos to share with family and friends.

Pros: Color accuracy, screen coating, remote interface
Cons: like all LCDs, shadow detail suffers
As a video editor for 25 years, I can tell you the on-axis viewing is the best in the LCD world. The better screen coating and color accuracy beats Samsung, plus Sony quality control tends to be good. Pros tend to prefer Ikegami HD CRT's which are an endangered species ($17,000), but have much better shadow detail than any LCD. I'm more than happy with the picture and user interface, but be sure to use HDMI inputs and blueray/upscaling dvd player.

Pros: Great Picture Quality, Sleek design/frame
Cons: First unit had issues and had to be replaced within 3 days
Got this LCD after comparing with the Samsung. The picture quality is amazing. Compared to Samsung, the "standard" mode picture is very natural and all colors come out perfect when I watch HD channels. I had a problem with the first unit purchased at a SONY "outlet" store near Philadelphia. After 3 days of minimal use, the color band in the center of the LCD started appearing. SONY customer service handled the situation well and send me a new unit within 4 days. I question the unit packing as sold by the outlet store as the packing with the new unit that came via UPS was much stronger. I am quite happy with the 2nd unit and have no issues so far (about 17 days).

Pros: small frame, brilliant picture, lots of ports
Cons: Motion Enhancer feature is inconsistent.
We were in the market for an HDTV and had heard that Sony had the best TV's around. We did some comparison shopping with different brands and liked the design of the BRAVIAs the best, we have a limited space to fit our TV into so the thin sides were a major plus for us. We bought a refurbished unit and have been blown away by the picture quality and clarity. We also got a Blu-ray player and cannot say enough about this TV when hooked up to Blu-ray, the 1080/24p capability is breathtaking. the TV's picture is so nice I don't want to go to the movies ever again. This truly is the way TV was meant to be watched!

Pros: Fantastic Picture
Cons: None
This is the best HDTV I have ever seen or purchased. The clarity of the picture is fantastic. As an avid sports fan, there is nothing like watching this 120 Hz system -- it exceeded my expectations.

Pros: Picture Great.
Cons: USB confusing - does it really work?
The picture is great and the sound excellent. Everything I wanted excpet for the confusing information on the USB port. There is basically nothing about what is actually needed to be able to use the USB port except that it will work with "some sony microvault USB devices". It does not work with my sandisk drive - the most commonly purchased manufacturer of USB drives. There needs to be specific information about what is compatible before you go out and spend money on specific devices. Why does it have to be Sony USB drive specific? Why is there nothing in the specs of the TV about which sony USB drive is required? Very poor documentation on this. This reflects on the design rating.
