The Solid State Drive is where permanent data is stored - applications, documents, etc. The larger the drive, the more data that can be stored. If you are storing large amounts of pictures, music and/or movies, a large capacity drive is recommended. Solid State Drives (SSD) can be used in place of the typical spinning hard disk drive found in most PCs. Faster and more durable, the SSD provides a rapid boot-up and quicker access to applications than a typical standard hard drive. Plus, without any moving parts, the SSD offers a more durable storage solution less prone to physical damage, such as scratches, which can occur in hard drives. RAID, or Redundant Arrays of Independent Discs, is a technology that coordinates between the two solid state drives to keep them operating simultaneously at optimal capacity. The result is quicker boot-up times, faster application launches and overall enhanced performance.

Fresh Start provides a basic computing environment where specific VAIO® applications (like VAIO® Media Gallery and VAIO Picture Motion Browser), trial software and games are removed from your unit prior to shipment. With an area that accommodates approximately 30 characters*, you can create your own personal message. As an elegant touch for a gift or an ideal spot for an inspirational message, the engraving is tasteful and tailored just for you. Engraving also provides an extra measure of security, making it easy to distinguish your notebook from others and deter theft at the same time. *Actual number of characters that will fit depends on your message, as certain characters take up more space than others. Actual measurement is done when you enter your message in the configurator. If your message is too long, you will see an error message with instruction to edit. Please make sure your spelling is correct as shown. Engraved notebooks cannot be returned. The 30-day return period does not apply to engraved products. These products may not be returned for refund or exchange unless they contain defects in materials or workmanship or are otherwise returnable under applicable warranty provisions. Sony's VAIO notebook limited warranty does not cover replacement of engraving. In the event your engraved VAIO notebook receives service under Sony's limited warranty or any extended service plan offered by a third party, use of necessary replacement parts may eliminate the engraving on the notebook.

What are Accidental Damage from Handling service plans?
Accidental Damage from Handling Protection (ADH) plans offer the same benefits as the Regular Extended Service Plans but gives the added benefit of repairing or replacing your Sony product when it malfunctions due to breakdowns that occur from handling the product under normal operating conditions.
This Service Plan includes all parts, labor and shipping costs in its coverage to make sure your Sony product is repaired and delivered back to you without any out-of-pocket costs. Coverage begins on the date you purchased the product and runs concurrently with the Limited Warranty.
Why add your Extended Service Plan today?
Extended Service Plans run concurrently with the Limited Warranty so the later you purchase the Service Plan, the less coverage you will receive. Adding your Service Plan today ensures confidence in full product protection and entitles you to value pricing. Also, select Extended Service Plans are only offered at the time of product purchase. Plans that must be added on at the time of model purchase include any accidental damage from handling plans. These Service Plans are not offered for stand-alone purchase and cannot be purchased after you have bought your product.
Also, purchasing Extended Service Plans at a later date requires a valid proof of purchase and are only available within 180 days of your product purchase. Extended Service Plans with ADH may only be purchased within 30 days of your product purchase.
